Tan France first captivated our hearts and screens as the fashion expert on Netflix’s “Queer Eye,” and eventually, “Next in Fashion,” catapulting him into the spotlight as a respected industry figure. He’s also worked as a designer and director for the likes of Zara and Selfridges, proving that he knows a thing or two about taste. Naturally, he’s become a trusted voice in beauty, even creating the documentary, “Beauty and the Bleach,” where he explores colorism and his experiences with bleaching. One of his latest magic tricks? Partnering with Sephora.
This season, the French retailer produced its “Give Something Beautiful” campaign, featuring France as a trusted source to help beauty lovers navigate the chaos that holiday gift shopping can bring. “I get asked so, so often about my holiday gifting ideas, so this was the perfect fit for me, and I just love Sephora for gifting,” France tells Popsugar. “The part I was most excited about was my friends and family seeing my holiday commercial. Their reactions brought me so much joy.”
Born and raised in Doncaster, England, France often enjoyed watching his mom apply turmeric to her face every few weeks because of its healing properties. This set the tone for his intricate approach to skin care, often being asked about what makes his skin so good (hello, Tata Harper). He also stresses that there’s no such thing as perfect skin or a product that guarantees it. “We are all unique and our skin is unique to us,” he says. “It’s important to find a beauty regimen and beauty products that work for us personally.” For France, that entails not exfoliating too often.
The fashion stylist applies this same attitude to gift shopping at Sephora. “Go for something that you feel confident the recipient doesn’t have, but is personal to them and you know will actually be used,” he says. The luxury beauty destination is notorious for its gift sets, which France is a major fan of. If he could craft his own, it would be a pampering kit, incorporating the Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit Cologne ($170), Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask and Moisturizer ($49), Summer Fridays Jet Lag Skin Soothing Hydration Mist ($21), Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo and No. 5 Bond Maintenance Conditioner Duo ($64), Caudalie Vinoperfect Brightening Dark Spot Serum ($82), Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream ($48), and Laniege Lip Glowy Balm ($19). Though he recommends hyaluronic acid serum as a fail-safe gift for almost anyone.

As for more gift recommendations? The Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Dewy Skin Routine Gift Set ($54, originally $67) for the beauty rookie, Gisou Glow All the Way Hair and Lip Gift Set ($69, originally $75) for the beauty maximalist, and Sephora Favorites Cologne Sampler Set ($98), and Glossier You Duo Perfume Gift Set ($88) for the fragrance connoisseur. He also suggests the Color Wow Dream Coat Iconic Frizz Fighters Hair Duo Gift Set ($22, originally $28) for the beauty lover who has everything. When it comes to holiday shopping priorities, France makes one thing clear: it all starts with a glow.
