The Today Show reported that Culkin’s pitch would see him reprise his role as Kevin McCallister.
Culkin has publicly mused about one idea for a sequel, saying in a 2025 event it would center on his character as a father who gets locked out of his own home, with his son setting traps so he can’t get back in.
“I kind of had this idea,” Culkin said at his A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin tour on Sunday, Nov. 22. The event, held at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, Calif. “I’m either a widower or a divorcee. I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard, and I’m not really paying enough attention, and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me, and then I get locked out.”

The original 1990 holiday classic centered on Kevin himself being left home alone after his family flies to Paris and mistakenly leaves him behind.
When a duo of robbers (Joe Pesci‘s Harry and Daniel Stern‘s Marv) try to break in, Kevin sets a series of traps to deter them.
The film’s 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, saw him reprise the role, while third and fourth installments and a 2021 Disney+ reboot have followed, but all with different casts.
