A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the mass shooting at Virginia State University (VSU).

Camron Harris of Henrico, Virginia, was taken into custody after being found hiding in a dormitory closet in Seward Hall on the campus several hours after the shooting on Saturday, Aug. 15, CNN, WTVR and the Associated Press reported, citing the Chesterfield County Police (CCP). 

Harris, who is reportedly not a student at the university, received eight felony warrants, including for malicious wounding and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, per the outlets. 

Authorities haven’t shared a possible motive for the alleged incident.

VSU said in a social media statement that police responded to a shooting shortly before 1:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, where they found five individuals “suffering from gunshot wounds” and that “multiple suspects” were involved in the shooting, which took place in VSU’s residential housing area Quad Annexes.

One of the injured victims is a 20-year-old student, who has since been released from the hospital, according to AP.

The remaining four victims injured are not VSU students. They include a 21-year-old man in critical condition, a 23-year-old man, a 19-year-old woman and a 17-year-old boy, with non-life-threatening injuries, per WTVR. The victims have not been publicly identified at this time.

Harris is being held at the Chesterfield County Jail without bond, the outlet reported. The police said he may receive additional charges.

“At this time, law enforcement does not believe there is an immediate threat to the VSU campus community. The campus lockdown has been lifted,” VSU said in a statement posted on Facebook.

“…The safety and well-being of our students remain our highest priority. VSU Police will maintain an increased presence on campus as the investigation continues,” the university continued. “Students should monitor their VSU email for additional safety measures currently in effect and information about available support resources.”

Multiple authorities are involved in the ongoing investigation, including the CCP, the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office, VSUP and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, per Fox 11 News.
