A Wyoming pizza place received an order for 18 pies that totaled about $300. When they learned it was actually a prank, the food establishment decided to give back to their local community.
L’Osteria Mondello in Cheyenne received the large pizza order on Friday, Aug. 14. “Someone decided to have a little fun and ordered 18 pizzas to go as a prank. We made all 18, but apparently nobody came to pick them up,” the restaurant wrote in a Facebook post.
“Rather than letting all that food go to waste, we decided to turn it into something positive,” L’Osteria Mondello continued, explaining that they donated “all 18 pizzas to our local ER.”
“A little frustrating situation turned into a good deed, and hopefully the pizzas helped make someone’s night a little better,” the pizza joint added.
In its social media post, L’Osteria Mondello shared photos of the pizza order, employees posing in the establishment and the hospital staff with their donated dinner.

According to Cowboy State Daily, the pizza order was delivered to the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. The local outlet reported that the 18 pies totaled around $300.
L’Osteria Mondello owner Dave Agovic told Cowboy State Daily that around the same time the fake pizza order came in, the restaurant had another order for 12 or 13 pizzas, and one other for seven or eight. “I had like over 40 pizzas at the same time,” he said.

The kitchen became so busy that L’Osteria Mondello temporarily stopped taking orders. Cowboy State Daily reported that the food establishment told callers it could be an hour and a half to two hours before they could take new orders.
After getting the order for 18 pies ready in roughly 40 minutes, L’Osteria Mondello staff called the number that placed the order, but the individual who answered the phone said they hadn’t ordered anything.

After thinking of what to do with the pizza, Agovic thought, per Cowboy State Daily, “Why don’t we deliver it to the hospital?”
Around the same time, Ryan Lemley, a former employee who worked for L’Osteria Mondell for more than two years, stopped by to say hello, and once he realized what happened, he volunteered his time to help out.
“He was my hero that day,” Agovic said, according to Cowboy State Daily.
He added to the outlet that in the more than three years that he has run L’Osteria Mondell, a similar instance had happened only one other time.
Addressing why his staff didn’t require the customer to pay in advance, Agovic explained, “We trust people. Cheyenne is a small place, and Cheyenne is a place with wonderful people. And we really try to make sure we have that trust with the local community.”
