LOOKOUT is heading back in 2027, and this time it is bringing three giants of ’90s alternative rock along for the ride. +LIVE+, Stone Temple Pilots and 4 Non Blondes will co-headline the returning event, putting some of the decade’s most enduring songs onto the same bill.
For +LIVE+, another Australian visit continues a relationship with local audiences that stretches back decades. The Pennsylvania band broke internationally with 1994’s ‘Throwing Copper’, an album that sold more than eight million copies in the US alone and produced ‘Lightning Crashes’, ‘I Alone’, ‘All Over You’ and ‘Selling the Drama’. More than 30 years later, those songs remain the backbone of a formidable live catalogue.
Stone Temple Pilots arrive with an equally substantial history behind them. Emerging from San Diego at the beginning of the ’90s, the band quickly escaped the grunge tag initially attached to them, moving between hard rock, psychedelia, glam and alternative rock across albums including ‘Core’, ‘Purple’ and ‘Tiny Music… Songs from the Vatican Gift Shop’. ‘Plush’, ‘Interstate Love Song’, ‘Vasoline’ and ‘Big Empty’ remain fixtures of alternative-rock radio.
Then there are 4 Non Blondes, whose recorded output was remarkably brief compared with their continuing cultural footprint. Their sole studio album, 1992’s ‘Bigger, Better, Faster, More!’, contained ‘What’s Up?’, the enormous Linda Perry-penned anthem that has enjoyed a life far beyond the band’s original early-’90s run. Their appearance at LOOKOUT gives Australian audiences a rare opportunity to see the group back onstage. Also appearing will be Magic Dirt, the Australian alt-rock stalwarts.
These acts make LOOKOUT 2027 a concentrated trip through a period when alternative rock was moving rapidly from clubs and college radio into the mainstream. The attraction isn’t simply nostalgia either. These are songs that have survived several generations of listeners, streaming platforms and changing musical fashions without disappearing from view.
Telstra Plus members can access the first presale from Monday, August 31 at 1pm, followed by the Face To Face presale on Tuesday, September 1 at 1pm. General tickets go on sale Wednesday, September 2 at 1pm.
