Jimmy Kimmel is back on air and not holding back.

The comedian returned to host Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, Sept. 8, after nearly three months of his annual break and fill-in guest hosts. And, apparently, Kimmel saw some similarities in how he and President Donald Trump spent their summers.

“Donald Trump and I have one thing in common,” Kimmel, 58, told his audience. “We both accomplished nothing all summer long.”

“You know things are bad when a wave of exploding diarrhea washes over us, and everybody goes, ‘Oh yeah, I forgot about the diarrhea.’ It seems like the only thing he got done was his hair. I don’t know if you saw this, but the leaves are changing colors and so is the president’s head.”

After pulling up an image of the president’s updated hairdo, Kimmel posed a question to viewers: “Is it possible to have a mid-life crisis at 80 years old? He’s aging in reverse. He’s our own little Benjamin Glutton.”

Earlier, Kimmel explained that “this country was a mess” before he left for his summer break, citing high gas prices, the war with Iran and uncertainty surrounding Mitch McConnell’s health. Now, he joked, “every one of those problems has been solved.”

“It said on Truth Social he made America great again,” Kimmel said of Trump. “Are you telling me the president of the United States had three full months and spent $20 million and couldn’t even get a pool cleaned?”

Elsewhere in the monologue, Kimmel teased his colleague Guillermo Rodriguez’s Dancing with the Stars debut, shared a supercut of Trump’s “best worst moments of the summer” and had a message for Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr as he celebrated his show’s milestone 4,000th episode.

“There are those who said we will never last this long. There are even those who used the regulatory might of the FCC to unconstitutionally try to make sure we didn’t last this long. But we did it the hard way, Brendan, and we are still here.”

Kimmel’s return — which followed guest-hosting stints from Anthony Anderson, Rosie O’Donnell and more — came hours after an ABC Entertainment spokesperson denied a report from Page Six about Jimmy Kimmel Live! ending soon. The spokesperson told PEOPLE that the information was “inaccurate” and noted that “any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative.”
