Jolie called her current era “the end of a certain time for me” in a new interview

Angelina Jolie may soon be an expat. 

“It’s the end of a certain time for me,” the actress-filmmaker, 51, told L’Officiel in a new interview about her creative house, Atelier Jolie. 

The Couture star entered a new chapter when the youngest of her six kids, Vivienne and Knox, turned 18 in July. Jolie and ex-husband Brad Pitt, who separated in 2016 and finalized their divorce in 2024, also share Maddox, 25, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, and Shiloh, 20. 

When asked if she will be living in New York rather than her longtime home of Los Angeles, Jolie responded, “Out of the States more, I think.”

She added, “I don’t really plan to have a base. I’d like to have a home base for my family, a place where some of the mom stuff and the family photos are. And then I’d like to be a bit nomadic for a while.”

Atelier Jolie’s global expansion, which the Oscar winner indicated will begin in Brazil, will involve visiting “the different locations around the world” and meeting “local artists and makers.” 

She also discussed continuing her work visiting refugees around the world for the UN and the evolution of the Maddox Foundation, Jolie’s Cambodia-based non-profit focusing on conservation and community development. 

“My home in Cambodia will also be a residency a few months out of the year for Khmer culture,” she said. Jolie’s eldest son Maddox, for whom her foundation is named, was adopted in Cambodia. 

This May, Jolie officially listed her California compound, formerly owned by filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, for $29.85 million. “She’s been talking about leaving Los Angeles for years,” a source told PEOPLE in July. 

With all six kids now grown up, they added, Jolie is “ready” to “experience the world” with them and move on from their life in California. “She’s happy to have more freedom and flexibility in her life.”

The Eternals star hinted to The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024 that while she “grew up in” Los Angeles, as the daughter of actors Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, she was living there “because I have to be here from a divorce.” Referencing Vivienne and Knox, Jolie said, “But as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.”

She added at the time, “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here. [After Los Angeles,] I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”
