Fox will be honored with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at this year’s ceremony

Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan have a special night ahead of them.

The Back to the Future actor, 65, will receive the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award at the 2026 Emmy Awards on Sept. 14 for what the event describes as “recognition of his transformative contributions to Parkinson’s disease research and advocacy.”

Fox, who was diagnosed with early-onset Parkinson’s disease in 1991 when he was 29, arrived at the red carpet with Pollan, to whom he’s been married since July 16, 1988, after they played love interests on Family Ties. Posing in a chair on the carpet, he was photographed in a black suit with a matching tie and shirt, as well as loafers.

Pollan, 66, coordinated in a black gown embellished with a striking gold neckpiece.

Fox is also celebrating his 19th Emmy nomination, recognized this year in the Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role in Shrinking. He has won five Emmys.

Fox, who made his return to acting in season 3 of Shrinking following both of his retirements from acting, and Pollan’s arrival at the awards show marks their first time attending in 13 years. The pair last hit the Emmys red carpet in 2013, coordinating in black looks.

This month, he opened up to PEOPLE about his diagnosis and becoming a public face of the disease decades ago.

“[I knew] my name could attract attention to help us achieve our goals faster. But I also have this disease. I know the issues and I share my community’s sense of urgency,” Fox, who founded the Michael J. Fox Foundation in 2000, said in an exclusive interview.

Speaking to being in the spotlight while dealing with his health, Fox admitted that it isn’t always easy, especially living with symptoms including tremors and balance issues. “Of course, things have gotten harder over the years,” he added. But, “I’m privileged to commit my time and energy to bringing everything I’ve got to help cure this disease.”

The 78th Emmy Awards, hosted by Mariska Hargitay, are broadcasting live on Sept. 14, from 8 to 11 p.m. ET on NBC and Peacock.
