German power metal veterans Primal Fear are heading to Australia in 2027, marking three decades of the band with a 30th anniversary tour and a brand-new album in tow.

Formed by vocalist Ralf Scheepers and bassist Mat Sinner in 1997, Primal Fear quickly established themselves as one of Germany’s heavyweight metal exports. Their self-titled debut arrived the following year and reached No. 48 on the German album chart, kicking off a career that has since stretched across 15 albums and countless tours around the world.

Scheepers had already made his mark with Gamma Ray and was once considered among the potential candidates to replace Rob Halford in Judas Priest. Alongside Sinner, the current Primal Fear lineup features guitarist Magnus Karlsson, drummer André Hilgers and guitarist Thalìa Bellazecca.

The timing of the Australian tour gives fans something extra. Primal Fear’s new album ‘Shadowriders’ is due just before they arrive, meaning the shows will be among the first opportunities anywhere to hear its new material live.

Thirty years into a career built on towering vocals, twin guitars and unapologetically traditional heavy metal, Primal Fear are using the anniversary to look both backwards and forwards. For Australian fans, that means three decades of the catalogue colliding with songs that will have barely left the factory floor.
