- Farrah Abraham underwent double-disc jaw surgery, and her mouth has been wired shut, her manager tells PEOPLE
- The reality TV alum’s recovery will include at least two months of a liquid diet and restrictions on speaking
- In addition to severe jaw pain and facial swelling, the MTV star has also experienced hearing loss in one ear
Farrah Abraham underwent surgery to treat her ongoing jaw issues.
The 16 and Pregnant alum’s manager, Chrissy Johnston, tells PEOPLE that Abraham underwent double-disc jaw surgery, and had her stitches removed on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Johnston calls it a “small but welcome milestone” for Abraham.
The Daily Mail was the first to report Abraham’s surgery.
The Teen Mom alum, 35, will not be able to speak for two months, with her mouth being wired shut, and will need to stick to a strict liquid diet.
“She has already lost a significant amount of weight,” Johnston tells PEOPLE. “She’s understandably not having the easiest time right now. The severe pain, swelling, and inability to eat solid food, open her mouth or talk have taken a significant toll on her mood, but she’s doing her best to stay positive.”
“She still has a long road ahead,” Johnston says, but adds that Abraham is working on her Austin City Council campaign. “She’s taking things one day at a time and trying to keep moving forward.”
Abraham’s daughter, Sophia, shared a glimpse of her mother’s recovery on her TikTok live, according to Us Weekly. In the video, Abraham wrote that she felt like “Frankenstein.” She also wrote a sign explaining she can’t talk due to the surgery and is hoping her facial swelling will subside within three months.
Abraham shares Sophia, 17, with her former partner Derek Underwood. He died in a car accident in 2008, shortly before Farrah gave birth to their daughter.
Abraham recently opened up about the “preventive” cosmetic procedures she received throughout her 20s.
“I feel like if I wait until I’m older — and I see a lot of my girlfriends in their 50s and 60s holding off — it gets more expensive,” she explained on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast in March 2025. “Let’s be honest, I would rather save women money, save myself money and do it early.”
“Girls can play all day,” she said. “Anyone can play with their bodies, enjoy yourselves. Do not shame yourself.”

Abraham received butt injections in 2018 and a lip implant in 2015. The latter procedure had complications that landed her in the hospital. She later appeared on Botched.
“I was embarrassed to walk in there,” Abraham previously told PEOPLE in July 2015 of meeting with Dr. Terry Dubrow and Dr. Paul Nassif. Abraham said she could feel her lip “blowing up” after the lip procedure went terribly wrong, and she was desperate to “get this out of my body.”
“Admitting that I messed up on something that I love to do was a little harsh for me to confront at first,” she said at the time. “But I think it was good to share my story because it was on national headlines and news, so I wanted to show others so they don’t have the same complications.”
