Ben Affleck is setting the record straight about one of the most talked-about moments in Gone Girl.
The actor, 54, revealed whether he wore a prosthetic during the 2014 thriller’s memorable shower scene with Rosamund Pike, putting to rest years of speculation about what viewers actually saw on screen.
“I wore no prosthesis,” Affleck said when asked by Variety. “I’ve only worn one in one film, Hollywoodland. It was a nose.”
Affleck starred as Nick Dunne in Gone Girl, David Fincher’s adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s 2012 novel. The film, released in 2014, also starred Pike as Nick’s wife, Amy Dunne.

Affleck has previously spoken about Fincher’s approach to filming the shower scene. While accepting an award for Gone Girl at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards, he joked that the director had initially assured him the camera would not reveal too much.
“David assured me — because trust is essential with directors and actors — ‘Listen, if we tilt down, we’ll never go far enough to see anything,’” Affleck said at the time.
He also joked about the conditions on set, saying, “I’d like to thank you for keeping the set cool,” before adding, “If you’re gonna have one chance for America to see your junk, you want it to be cold.”

While discussing his filmography in an Oct. 6 interview with Letterboxd, Affleck called working with the director “the great privilege of my life.”
“I think he’s one of the absolute greatest filmmakers ever to live,” Affleck said. “I love him. I fell in love with him and got to know him and adore him. His spirit, his genius. He really is one of these few people who has the taste of an artist and the mind of an engineer. Those things don’t typically seem to come together.”
Affleck also praised the filmmaker’s ability to create an environment that allows audiences to fully settle into his movies.
“Every movie that he does is done masterfully, where you feel the sense, and it’s like you can relax,” he said.
And when it came to working with Fincher, Affleck said there was little he wouldn’t do.
“I was willing to do anything for him… like be naked,” he said.
Now Affleck is on the other side of the camera, directing his own films.
He directed and stars in Animals, a thriller he co-wrote with Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray. Affleck plays a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped for ransom by unknown kidnappers.

The film also stars Kerry Washington, Steven Yeun, Gillian Anderson, Adriana Paz, Ray Fisher, Christopher Woodley, Matt Gerald, Jacob Estrada and Luis Gerardo Méndez.
Animals marks another directing effort for Affleck, who directed five films before the thriller, according to his IMDB.
The actor-director has also recently discussed his use of artificial intelligence while making the film. Affleck said he used AI “for lots of things in that movie” during an appearance at Bloomberg’s Screentime Event, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“I’m a little bit hesitant to point out what they are — or even talk about it — because in my business, we’re trying to foster the illusion of reality, right?” Affleck said.

He compared revealing the film’s AI techniques to a magician explaining a trick before performing it.
“It’s sort of like if you went to a magic show and the magician walked out and said, ‘Just before I start, I want you to know there’s another bunny under here,’” he said.
Affleck described Animals as “a very human movie” and called it “a good example” of how to use AI ethically.
Animals is currently playing in select theaters and will be available to stream on Netflix beginning Oct. 9.
