  • The film is set for release on Friday, Oct. 16 and follows a deadly conspiracy uncovered during the World Warrior Tournament

The stars of Street Fighter are bringing everyone’s favorite combatants to the big screen.

Premiering in theaters on Friday, Oct. 16, the modern film adaptation of the iconic video game franchise stars Andrew Koji and Noah Centineo as “estranged Street Fighters” recruited for the next World Warrior Tournament.

According to the official logline, per Deadline, the fighters uncover “a deadly conspiracy” lurking beneath the battle “that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past.”

The upcoming film will feature a number of familiar faces from the arcade classic, with the cast and crew working to faithfully recreate the characters’ looks — and signature fighting styles.

“Meticulous attention was paid to detail,” Centineo told GamesRadar+ in October 2026. “And I think it’s really a triumph.”

Here is the cast of Street Fighter side-by-side with the video game characters they play.

Centineo stars in the movie as Ken Masters, a former champion martial artist turned “sideshow,” according to the first official trailer.

The Recruit star told Cineplay that he worked out “every single day without fail” to recreate his character’s muscular physique and experimented with wigs, extensions and bleaching his hair.

“We were trying to look as much like the characters in the game as possible, but the whole time, I couldn’t stop thinking, ‘Is this really going to work? Will we actually look like these characters?’ ” he said in October 2026, adding that he was hesitant until he got into full-costume with Koji for camera-test day.

Centineo recalled, “The moment we saw the image, we both said, ‘Oh, it’s not bad at all. No, it actually looks really cool. We might be able to pull this off.’ “

Starring opposite Centineo, Koji takes on the role of former warrior Ryu, and he had similar reservations about pulling it off.

“Ryu is iconic,” the actor told Rolling Stone Phillippines in October 2026. “There is a lot of pressure playing a character who has lived so long in the minds of fans, mine included.”

In the film’s trailer, his character appears to have stepped away from fighting, saying the path he’s on “is not one of combat.”

The clip also hints at lingering tension between Ken and Ryu, former allies who clash shortly after their long-awaited reunion.

Street Fighter stars Callina Liang as Chun-Li, a mysterious figure who enlists Ken and Ryu into the World Warrior Tournament.

Deadline reported her casting in June 2025, which Liang posted on Instagram, writing in the caption that her 12-year-old self was “shaking dying crying” from the news.

She later told Cineplay in October 2026 that she focused on weight training to recreate her character’s distinct legs.

“Chun-Li’s moves use her legs, and literally all of her power comes from them,” Liang explained, adding that she did everything she could to build muscle. “I didn’t want to pad my body or anything like that. Everything you see in the film is my real body.”

In the video game series, Chun-Li was the first playable female character.

In addition to his on-screen role, Momoa is one of the film’s producers.

The role is especially exciting for the actor for a reason stemming back to his childhood.

“My mom raised me with no video games,” Momoa told Men’s Journal in October 2025. “It was always a sneaky thing that I loved. I’d go to a friend’s house to play Street Fighter. Or go to the arcade to play Street Fighter.”
