Comedian Carrot Top made an emotional return to his Las Vegas residency on Monday, Oct. 19, one month after his suicide attempt.

The comedian, born Scott Christopher Thompson, 61, was met with a cheering audience at Monday’s show at the Luxor Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, according to a video shared by Vital Vegas on X. In the video Carrot Top, who has headlined a long-running residency at the Luxor since 2005, expresses gratitude for his longtime fan base, while addressing the recent incident in his signature comedic fashion.

“Thank you so much. God bless all my fans and my family, my mom, my brother, everybody here tonight,” he says onstage to a cheering crowd.

“I would have done this a long time ago if I could get this kind of love,” he jokes.

“It’s an emotional night for everybody,” he adds. “It’s been a rough month. Trying to figure out what is appropriate for a night like tonight.”

After saying he spent a month debating how to address his incident to his live audiences, he admits, “I don’t know what to talk about.”

“I’m truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, support, prayers and well wishes I’ve received over the past couple of weeks,” the comic wrote alongside a photo of himself smiling onstage.

“Every message, text, and kind thought has meant more to me than you know,” he continued. “While I haven’t been able to respond to everyone individually, please know that I’ve felt your love and appreciate each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for being there for me during this time. It truly means the world to me!” 🧡.”

Following a weeklong hospitalization in September, a source close to the stand-up star told PEOPLE that his circle had been “touched” by the “wave of well-wishes” he received from fans.

Carrot Top performed his first stand-up show at an open mic night when he was a student at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla., per his Ticketmaster bio.

He went on to work as an announcer for Cartoon Network in the mid-‘90s, and made a number of appearances across popular TV shows in the early aughts and 2010s, including spots on Family Guy and Glee.

The comedian more recently made a cameo appearance on Hacks opposite Jean Smart in 2024. The hit show followed the fictional comic Deborah Vance (Smart) as she reclaims her act in Las Vegas.
