A black cat in Massachusetts is living proof that you shouldn’t always believe in superstitions.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston recently announced that the 7-week-old black kitten was brought into its center by a good Samaritan “after being spotted dodging traffic on 93 North last week.”

The shelter, which helps more than 16,700 animals each year, said it had rightfully named the kitten “Freeway.”

With the announcement, the shelter posted three photos of the adorable black kitten with green eyes. One photo showed the kitten putting its paws together and sticking its tongue out.

Another showed the small animal resting with its ears up as it laid its paws on someone.

A third photo showed the cat with its eyes wide open as it looked at the person holding it.

After being rescued, Freeway was placed with a foster family to gain weight and ultimately find her forever home.

The center said that although she may not be ready for adoption, it may be a sign for members of the community to “welcome another black cat into your family.”

While black cats tend to be associated with bad luck, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History states that there are folklore where they are considered to be good omens.

European folklore often portrays cats as companions of witches, while Welsh folklore depicts the cat as bringing luck to a home, according to the museum.
