Britt McHenry dumped her drink on a basketball fan during an NBA game on Wednesday, Oct. 21, in Washington, D.C., and is now no longer in her role at the State Department, per reports.
The former Fox News contributor and State Department press adviser, 40, was seen leaving her seat — along with a male friend — after she threw the contents of her drink on a man who was seated near her, as seen in video of the incident obtained by TMZ.
According to Page Six, McHenry took offense to comments made by a group of men regarding former Wizards player Kyle Kuzma, who now plays for the Milwaukee Bucks.
The men were allegedly heckling Kuzma, who is engaged to model and actress Winnie Harlow.
“They were saying he plays terribly because his girlfriend’s ugly,” a source told Page Six.
After interacting with the men, McHenry stood up and threw the drink, as spectators near her jeered. McHenry’s companion — who sported a vintage Caron Butler Wizards jersey — got up and left with her.
As the former ESPN personality walked up the aisle, she continued to jab with the group, and she blew kisses to the crowd as she ascended the stairs.
McHenry was hired to work for the State Department last month, but Page Six reported that she was forced the resign from her role after the incident on Thursday.
A source told the outlet, “She was forced to resign [over the incident],” noting that McHenry had been promoted at work the day before she was asked to leave her role.
A spokesperson for the State Department told Page Six, “We do not comment on internal personnel matters.”
Front Office Sports also reported that McHenry was “no longer in her role” at the State Department. The outlet reported that McHenry told them she had signed a resignation letter.
The State Department and McHenry did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment on Friday, Oct. 23.

Now, I get to take that experience and apply it to our country’s highest diplomatic agency.”
McHenry added, “As a fellow Floridian, I have followed and admired Secretary Marco Rubio’s political career from its inception to the outstanding leadership he shows today in the Administration. He has appointed an exceptional staff, and I look forward to serving them and our nation.”
