Lisa Rinna is sharing the secret to her long-lasting marriage to Harry Hamlin.

The couple said “I do” in 1997 and have been married for nearly three decades. During her guest appearance on CBS Mornings on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Rinna, 63, discussed why her marriage with Hamlin, 75, works.

“You know, people ask us that all the time and I don’t know. You know, I’m his third wife so clearly maybe third time’s the charm, right?” The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum joked to co-hosts Gayle King, Vladimir Duthiers and Nate Burleson.

She added, “I think that it helps that he was really hot and is really hot.”

Hamlin was previously married to Laura Johnson from 1985 to 1989, and Nicollette Sheridan from 1991 to 1992. He married Rinna in the garden of their Beverly Hills, California home on March 29, 1997.

Rinna said she and Hamlin are “so opposite” but allow each other to be their true selves without trying to change the other person.

“He’s very serious and quiet and I think he gets a kick out of me to be honest,” she shared. “You know, I think that’s why it works is we allow each other to be ourselves, our true selves.”

She continued, “And I enjoy him for who he is. He seems to enjoy me for who I am. We have fun.”

In February, Rinna admitted on the Dinner’s on Me with Jesse Tyler Ferguson podcast that “a good marriage is a lot of work.” She credited “mutual respect” and therapy, as needed, as keys to her relationship.

“As long as you have a mutual respect for one another, I think is really the key,” she said. “The minute you start to devalue one another, that’s when you gotta go to therapy and stop that. Because it’s easy. Resentment builds up, and you could be, like, mad from 20 years ago and not even know it. You gotta catch that s–t.”

She added, “If you need to go to therapy, you go to therapy. If you have issues you can’t get through, you just gotta do it.”

Rinna and Hamlin will officially mark 30 years of marriage on March 29, 2027. Hamlin told PEOPLE in April that he and Rinna already celebrated their milestone wedding anniversary with an early special getaway.

“Well, actually, we celebrated 29 for 30 because the world situation is not looking like it’s going to be amenable to having lots of travel fun next year,” he said. “Uh, you know, who knows what’ll happen, but we took this little window of time and we went back to a place we’d been to 32 years ago.”

The actor and author noted that it was the first trip, just the two of them, in many years.

“What we realized about a month ago was that we hadn’t gone on a trip together, just the two of us, in 32 years because we had kids and we always went with them,” said Hamlin, who shares daughters Delilah, 28, and Amelia, 25, with Rinna. He is also father to son Dimitri, 46, whom he shares with ex Ursula Andress.

He continued, “So we hadn’t had a romantic trip and so we had one and it was great.”

After being asked where they traveled to, Hamlin hinted, “Well, I highly recommend Tahiti.”
