A 17-year-old male has been charged with two counts of murder in a mass shooting at a California Spirit Halloween store that killed a pregnant mother of four and her unborn baby.

The Solano County District Attorney’s Office announced on Tuesday that a 17-year-old boy had been charged with two counts of murder, three counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a semi-automatic weapon and multiple firearm enhancements.

Prosecutors also alleged that the teenager has a prior conviction for a violent offense.

The Oct. 30 shooting inside the Halloween costume store killed 31-year-old Constance Hages, as well as her unborn baby. In addition, six others were wounded in the mass shooting, PEOPLE previously reported.

As of Monday, Nov. 2, four of the six surviving victims remained hospitalized, including a 19-year-old man in critical condition, according to police. Three others — ages 16, 23 and 32 — were in stable condition.

Two additional victims, ages 19 and 43, were treated for gunshot wounds and released from the hospital.

Local ABC 7 reported that Hages was also a mother of four, in addition to her unborn child.

“This heartbreaking loss has left behind four children, grieving parents, and a family trying to face a pain that words can barely hold,” Hages’ family said in a GoFundMe this week. “Constance was deeply loved, and her absence has created an overwhelming void in the lives of everyone who knew and cherished her.”

Fairfield Police Department spokesperson Michelle Belyea told ABC 7 that Hages appeared to be an innocent bystander, according to investigators’ initial read on the evidence, including security footage of the shooting.

“The suspect observed another customer who investigators believe was the intended target,” Belyea said, according to the outlet. “The suspect then produced a firearm and fired multiple rounds at the victim.”

The teenager appeared in Juvenile Court on Wednesday morning, according to officials.

The Solano County District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday it made requests to the court that the 17-year-old suspect be put on trial as an adult.

Meanwhile, the suspect has remained in custody without bond.

“Due to the seriousness of these crimes, the minor’s criminal record, and the threat to public safety, the People will argue that [the suspect] remain detained,” the district attorney’s office said.

Citing Fairfield Police, CBS Sacramento reported that the 17-year-old suspect had spent several months in juvenile detention last year following another shooting at Fairfield High School.
