Stacy London and Clinton Kelly took viewers back in time with the newest episode of their web series Why’d They Wear That?
The duo, who first worked together on TLC’s What Not to Wear, launched their new series earlier this year, focused on providing hilarious commentary on some of pop culture’s hottest sartorial movies and TV shows throughout history. On the Nov. 5 episode, though, London and Kelly brought an old friend into the mix: makeup artist Carmindy Bowyer, who costarred with them on What Not to Wear.
The trio had actually not been all together in the same room in 13 years, they tell PEOPLE, so making this happen was extra special.
“I love these people more than anything in the world,” Carmindy, 55, shares while on set. “We never lose touch. We’re always either sending each other emojis or something. It’s family forever.”
Adds Kelly, “Carmindy and I have gone out to dinner a few times; Carmindy and Stacy see each other on a regular basis. But this is the first time that we’ve all three been in the same room in, I think, at least a decade.”
The last time they were together was when they filmed the What Not to Wear finale in Las Vegas in 2013.
For their grand reunion, London, 57, and Kelly, 57, asked Carmindy to break down some of the most iconic makeup looks on screen and share how they influenced her own work. The Nov. 5 episode touches on Xanadu, Dangerous Liaisons, Blade Runner, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Urban Cowboy, Breakfast at Tiffany’s and The Great Gatsby.

London and Carmindy actually met before What Not to Wear, they share. The makeup artist and stylist worked in publishing together, finding each other on various photo shoots. They ended up working on a “lost season” of What Not to Wear that they joke will never see the light of day. It was for the first season that aired that Kelly was brought on board. (Nick Arrojo served as hairstylist throughout the show.)
“From the moment that Clinton and I did our chemistry test, we got along so well,” London says. “It was kind of obvious that [he and Carmindy] were going to get along. We all have a very similar threshold for bulls—, similar threshold for working hard, we’re all hustlers.”
Carmindy adds, “He was making me laugh the minute I met him, and I was like, I love you.”

Once the first official season got underway, London and Kelly bonded right away due to the hectic filming schedule.
“We had an episode order of 60 episodes. Now keep in mind each episode took a week, and there are 52 weeks in a year. How do you make 60 episodes in 52 weeks?” Kelly describes. “And in different cities. We were crazy exhausted like you would not believe. The schedule was a s— show where it would be like, ‘All right, you’re flying to Boston on Monday, flying to LA on Wednesday.’”
Adds London, “And then you’ve got to come back and do a commercial in New York, but then we’ll fly you right back out to L.A. Crazy.”
They joke that Carmindy had it “easy” because she had a smaller role in the transformation process for the people brought on the show.
“Carmindy would come in looking fresh as a daisy and she would just be this beam of sunshine,” Kelly says while she laughs.
In fact, Carmindy admits she didn’t quit her other job while this show was happening back in 2003. Her filming commitment was much less time-consuming, so she was able to come and go easily.
“I was still doing photo shoots and magazines, and I was once a week. So once a week was the hair and makeup. Meanwhile, you guys had been through the wringer with these people,” she says.
Kelly jokes that it felt like so often people would be wooed by the makeup or hair transformation more than the actual styling, especially when it came to viewers. Carmindy is quick to say, though, that the allure was really in the co-hosting duo.
“People watched for you guys and the chemistry. It’s magic,” Carmindy says.

The hectic schedule continued for the first few years of the 10-season show before contracts were renegotiated. It wasn’t until Kelly and London started this current project that they felt truly in control of what they’re working on.
“We love doing this show,” Kelly says of Why’d They Wear That?. “This is really such a wonderful thing for us to have Carmindy here. It’s because Stacy and I are producers of this, and we can say, ‘We want Carmindy to be on. We love Carmindy. Let’s do Carmindy.’ … Stacy and I had zero say [in previous projects].”
For Why’d They Wear That?, Kelly and London have equal say (along with production company Simple Alien) in the creation of the show, unlike on What Not to Wear, where London previously pointed out to PEOPLE that they weren’t even executive producers.
This trio doesn’t take their friendship for granted, and in fact, London gets emotional looking back at all the years they’ve spent together and the gift of still being able to work together.
“It really means a lot,” she says of their friendship.
“What’s that expression? People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime. And in our case, it was a reason, television, but it’s become a lifetime,” Kelly says, with London adding, “I think it’s many lifetimes for me and you, Clinton, I’ve got to be honest.”
Carmindy jokes that eventually the two of them will just “morph into one soul.”
London thinks about it for only a second before simply saying, “Exactly.”
