Key events
Jeremy Boyce has messaged in about some ongoing managerial conundrums:
“It’s a grim old November Sunday here in the south of France so I’m hoping the afternoon’s MBM will provide some warming cheer.
“As you say, Carrick is very much under fire and today could indeed see the end of his tenure. As a Leeds fan I am obviously delighted to see The Scumme…er…Man U in such a state of comic disarray, a situation that has been going on so long (since Fergie) it could be turned into many-seasons TV sitcom. He’s not the only one of course, Palace’s current incumbent Sage is finding it difficult to grab the baton passed to him by Glasner, who himself will be very relieved with yesterday’s surprise win over “struggling” Man C. There must be something seriously suspect about the Citeh “defence” if they can allow mis-firing strikers such as Delap the kind of restorative goals that they coughed up yesterday.
“But they’re not the only managers in the spotlight. Over in the WSL the previously unimpeachable Renee Slegers is experiencing unexpected difficulties getting her Arsenal team of all the talents to put together any kind of results, never mind a string of them. Languishing in the lower half of the table, the powers that be at the Emirates might decide it’s time for a change if they drop more points away at The LiverBirds (themselves in need of a result) this afternoon. Who’d have thought that 6 months ago?”
Manchester City returned to the top of the WSL table yesterday with a 5-0 win over West Ham, while Chelsea dropped points against Everton.
A look at the WSL table…
What could Arsenal do next if their WSL form fails to improve? I’m not sure I could see them sacking Renée Slegers at this stage. She could choose to resign, like her predecessor, Jonas Eidevall, did.
But if she were to leave, who could Arsenal get in to replace her?
Arsenal head coach Renée Slegers finds herself under increasing pressure, with the Gunners eighth in the WSL table. Following a poor start to the campaign, Arsenal earned back-to-back wins against Tottenham and Benfica. At the time, many thought it could be a turning point, but that view quickly changed last week following a 1-1 draw and more dropped points against Aston Villa.
At this point, the 2025 Champions League winners are at risk of missing out on European qualification.
Manchester United also face Aston Villa in the WSL today, although that game is at Villa Park.
Here is the full list of today’s WSL fixtures…

Aston Villa v Manchester United

Crystal Palace v Charlton

Manchester United fans, what are your thoughts on the current situation at the club? Would much change if Carrick were to leave? Or does the issue run deeper than just the manager? Do the players have a part to play?
Feel free to message in and let me know your thoughts, or leave a comment below the line.
Unai Emery is one of the managers linked with the United job, should Carrick leave.
Krishnamoorthy has messaged in to say:
“Emery moving to OT will be a case of misplaced optimism triumphing over rooted pragmatism. A statue outside Villa Park is ready to be commissioned and why would a sane person leave a comfortable happening place to a cesspool of mismanagement and chaos?”
Manchester United dropped into the relegation zone yesterday. If they don’t win this afternoon and results don’t go their way, they could fall even further down the table.
The question is, if United lose, will it be Michael Carrick’s final game?
Now let’s take a look at today’s Premier League fixtures (kick-off at 2pm GMT unless stated otherwise)
-
Ipswich Town v Bournemouth
-
Sunderland v Chelsea
-
Brighton v Brentford
-
Crystal Palace v Liverpool

Manchester United v Aston Villa (4pm)
Rodrigo Muniz rescued a late point for Fulham in a 1-1 draw against Newcastle at Craven Cottage. It came after Jacob Murphy broke the deadlock for the Magpies with a brilliant strike.
How things stand in the Premier League…
At the Emirates Stadium, Martin Ødegaard scored the decisive goal as Arsenal clinched a 1-0 win against Hull City to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Enzo Maresca blamed his side’s lack of desire and the way they were outgunned in duels for a third successive Premier League defeat.
He said: “Today I think [the problem] has been general. It’s not about one player. In the first half we lost all the duels, all the contacts. Against this team, that is fighting relegation, if you don’t match them… it’s something we need to understand. In this kind of game, if you’re not able to win duels and second balls like in the first half, you struggle.
“You need desire and intensity to win second balls and duels. You require intensity or you struggle and we didn’t match their intensity. The second and third goals are copy and paste, lost duels first in the middle of pitch then at the edge of the box.”
Liam Delap scored twice as Nottingham Forest earned a much-needed 3-1 win against Manchester City. The result also saw City drop six points behind Arsenal in the Premier League table.
Reacting to the potential red card incident – which saw Bogle catch the achilles of Tel – immediately after the match, Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi said: “I can’t say something more because I didn’t see clearly the situation.
“I was surprised because in the same position in the second half, two different fouls and two yellow cards … I don’t know if it was a red card or not on Mathys Tel… And why I’m telling like this, because the parameter of the referee was not good enough, I think, for this both situation.”
Leeds United’s 1-0 win against Tottenham yesterday was overshadowed by some VAR controversy. Jayden Bogle was lucky to avoid a red card following a challenge on Mathys Tel. Spurs have now submitted a formal complaint to Pro Ref.
