Bryce Young is on fire right now. He hits John Metchie on the sideline with a perfectly timed pass then finds Jalen Coker with a quick release as he evades a sack. Just too good from the young quarterback. Carolina are at their own 40-yard line on 2nd down.
SACK! Broncos 13-14 Panthers 8:46, 3rd quarter

TOUCHDOWN! Broncos 13-14 Panthers 11:30, 3rd quarter
Denver keep tabs on Carolina in the red zone and bring up 3rd and 9. Young unleashes a fastball to Darren Waller who races from right to left across the face of the end zone. It’s GOOD! Lions 9-3 Dolphins 9:14, 3rd quarter
A false start penalty kills the drive and the Lions settle for three points. Jared Goff misses an easy throw into the turf with the NFL’s best offense looking anything but.
PICK! Lions 6-3 Dolphins 10:54, 3rd quarter
The Lions intercept Malik Willis and are knocking on the door of the red zone after the run back by Chuck Clark. On 3rd and short, who else? Jahmyr Gibbs skates over the line to gain for the 1st down. 14 yards to go for a Detroit touchdown.
TOUCHDOWN! Cowboys 17-7 Colts, half-time
Wooooo! Dak Prescott goes bombs away to a wide open CeeDee Lamb who beats the chasing defender on the goalline for the touchdown!

Jets 12-14 Chiefs 12:51, half-time
Jason Sanders misses a field goal on his fifth try and Mahomes is BACK quickly to help move the Chiefs into field goal range. Harrison Butker misses the boot and gets another go and misses again. Both just wide right. That can’t be good with Justin Tucker waiting to replace him on the practice squad.
It’s GOOD! Broncos 13-7 Panthers 0:04, 2nd quarter
So close! The ball bounces off Troy Franklin’s hands for what would have been a touchdown. They take the field goal.
Mahomes hurt on sack
Patrick Mahomes gets sacked on consecutive plays and is holding an arm as he walks off to the sideline. KC desperately hoping it isn’t serious.
Broncos 10-7 Panthers 0:20 2nd quarter
Denver cruise into field goal range. You can’t make mistakes like that with a defense as soft as Carolina’s. All the air immediately out of the balloon after scoring on an impressive drive.
Broncos 10-7 Panthers 1:27, 2nd quarter
Oh no. Big mistake from Carolina as kicker Ryan Fitzgerald continues his rubbish day at the office by booting it out of bounds. Denver on their 40 with lots of time to extend their lead.
TOUCHDOWN! Broncos 10-7 Panthers 1:27, 2nd quarter
WOW! The big tight end goes up high in the left side of the end zone and just comes down in bounds. Incredible catch from Tommy Tremble. Bryce Young cashes in on the Bo Nix interception on 14 play, 86-yard drive. Game on!
Broncos 10-0 Panthers 1:35, 2nd quarter
Riley Moss has joined Jaylen Waddle in being evaluated for concussions for the Broncos. On 3rd and 9 the Panthers get 8 with a pass to Waller. What are they going to do? They’re gambling. Chuba Hubbard finds the gap to the left and rips off 24 yards!!! What a play! Almost 1st and Goal for Carolina.
Jets 12-14 Chiefs 2:16, 2nd quarter
Field goals are keeping the Jets in the fight as Jason Sanders bags his fourth of the day.
Broncos 10-0 Panthers 2:14, 2nd quarter
On 3rd and 17 Bryce Young slings one for 20 yards to Tet McMilliand then pushes the Panthers over midfield with a 10-yard slant to Darren Waller.
TOUCHDOWN! Jets 9-14 Chiefs 5:37, 1st quarter
The QB and running back hook up again to retake the lead. Kenneth Walker takes the dump off short throw and rumbles the rest of the way. Quick strike after the Jets fumble.
Jets 9-7 Chiefs 6:21, 2nd quarter
Wrong then! Braelon Allen fumbles it to the Chiefs on the first play of the drive. Great peanut punch from Nick Bolton to shake the ball loose.
Jets 9-7 Chiefs 6:29, 2nd quarter
Right then! The Jets get a stop and Geno Smith is trotting out with the chance to grab a two-score lead in KC. The veteran QB has about 80 yards to travel if he is to pull it off.
Meanwhile Carolina have just picked off Bo Nix!!! He had a receiver open for what would have been a touchdown but didn’t get the ball deep enough. Underthrown.
Broncos 10-0 Panthers 10:23, 2nd quarter
Bad news for Broncos fans, Jaylen Waddle has left the game with an injury.
In other news Odell Beckham Jr has been signed by the Minnesota Vikings!
It’s GOOD! Jets 9-7 Chiefs 8:12, 2nd quarter
The hat-trick for the kicker puts the Jets back on top, just.
It’s NO GOOD! Broncos 10-0 Panthers 11:44, 2nd quarter
Rough one for the Panthers. Ryan Fitzgerald misses from 43 yards way wide to the right.
TOUCHDOWN! Cowboys 10-7 Colts 14:08, 2nd quarter

TOUCHDOWN! Rams 3-10 Commanders 14:00, 2nd quarter
Washington on top as they bid to stay in the race for the NFC East crown.
TOUCHDOWN! Giants 6-8 Eagles 2:09, 1st quarter
Something to smile about for Philadelphia. There is hope of ending their six-game losing streak yet. They bag a two-point conversion to boot.
Jets 6-0 Chiefs 1:55, 1st quarter
Kansas City are across midfield after a 11-yard strike to Xavier Worthy then they cruise into the red zone after a 21-yard gain from a short pass to Rashee Rice. Excellent lead blocking from his teammates.
TOUCHDOWN! Broncos 10-0 Panthers 1:23, 1st quarter
Denver are 3rd and 4 and Adam Trautman catches a Bo Nix pass to move the chains as the quarterback boots out to the right and finds the open tight end. Nix comes out and hits his trusty big man Courtland Sutton on the slant. Easy.
More? You want more?! Rams 3-3 Commanders. Still only one touchdown scored across seven games. C’mon lads sort it out!
More field goals: Jets 6-0 Chiefs, Giants 6-0 Eagles
Broncos 3-0 Panthers 4:26, 1st quarter
Carolina’s defense is really struggling giving away a third costly penalty already then Sean Payton beats the blitz with a screen pass that goes for 19 yards to Evan Ingram. An illegal Denver shift knocks them just out of the red zone. 1st and 15.
PICK! Lions 3-0 Dolphins 3:57, 1st quarter
Rough one from Jared Goff who throws a wobbler to C Johnson. Calvin is that you? Sadly not. Chris Johnson intercepts for Miami and the Dolphins pick it up at midfield after a penalty pushed them back 10 yards.
TOUCHDOWN! Cowboys 3-7 Colts 6:13, 1st quarter
Indy are in the red zone after a Dak Prescott fumble. Jonathan Taylor rumbles them to 1st and Goal then Seth McGowan jams it home at the attempt. Taylor fantasy owners are furious!
Broncos 3-0 Panthers 8:04, 1st quarter
Not quite a three and out but almost as good. Panthers punt after picking up one first down. A nervous start in the face of stiff pressure from the Broncos.
Would you believe it?! No touchdowns, only field goals on the menu. Rams 0-3 Commanders.
And one more: Jets 3-0 Chiefs. Jason Sanders bangs it through to put the New York Jetropolitans ahead in Kansas City.
In other field goal news: Cowboys 3-0 Colts, Giants 3-0 Eagles, Lions 3-0 Dolphins
It’s GOOD! Broncos 3-0 Panthers 11:09, 1st quarter
A couple of Jonah Coleman runs get the Broncos to the goalline. Nix then barrels out of the pocket and just throws the ball short of Pat Bryant in the end zone. A delay of game knocks them back five yards … Panthers get some pressure and Nix runs the wrong way for so long he starts laughing after he just gets the ball past the line of scrimmage to avoid intentional grounding. He was almost sacked 24 yards behind the line, good save … I think.
Broncos 0-0 Panthers 14:02, 1st quarter
Nix rips two deep balls as the Broncos try and pick on the Panthers’ weak defense. The first one to Courtland Sutton is incomplete but the second forces a 27-yard gain via a pass interference penalty. The game plan is clear already. Throw, throw, throw some more. Makes sense considering their struggles running the ball. The Broncos move it into the red zone quickly.
Broncos 0-0 Panthers 14:56, 1st quarter
Here we go! Carolina kick it away to Denver. The Broncos run it back to the 45-yard line. Nice trot from Sean Fresch. Excellent field position for Bo Nix to go to work.
In more QB news Shadeur Sanders is starting for the Browns and Joe Milton for the Eagles. Happy news if you are starting opposition defenses in fantasy.
Ja’Marr Chase’s touchdown in Madrid means he joins Randy Moss to be the only players in NFL history with at least seven touchdown catches in each of their first six seasons. Not bad company to keep.
The Panthers meanwhile are top of the weird NFC South on 3-4 and looking to bounce back from two successive defeats.
The Broncos are in Panthers country looking for a fifth successive win as they keep finding a way with their unique brand of gritty football.
They won ugly last week with a dramatic goalline stand to deny the Kansas City Chiefs and cap their comeback from an 11-point deficit to win 28-24. It would mean they have now won 15 straight regular season games decided by one score, tied with the 2008-09 Indianapolis Colts for the longest streak in history. What’s more, it marked Bo Nix’s 13th fourth-quarterback comeback win, the most by a quarterback in his first three seasons since 1950.
With running back JK Dobbins struggling, the Broncos have unearthed a new asset out of the backfield in fourth-round rookie Jonah Coleman, who had 104 yards and one touchdown from 15 scrimmage touches against the Chiefs.
Final score: (6-2) Cincinnati Bengals 34-17 Atlanta Falcons (3-6)
And that’s the end of that chapter. Cincinnati’s league-best passing attack was just far too much for Atlanta to handle. These Bengals look destined for the playoffs.
PICK! Bengals 31-17 Falcons 3:54, 4th quarter
That is the ball game at the Bernabéu. Needing three scores Michael Penix gets desperate and throws it straight at Barrett Carter who snaffles up the interception and with it the W. Cincinnati are heading to the top of the AFC North with Pittsburgh as they both sit 6-2.
The big injury news is that Myles Garrett returns for the Rams on defense. If the game wrecking defensive end is at full strength then the Commanders and Jayden Daniels could be in for a very rough afternoon. Garrett’s addition is a timely boost after the Rams lost Jaylen Watson for the reminder of the season with a shoulder injury.
Elsewhere the Cowboys are without star receiver George Pickens and cornerback Joey Porter Jr.
Bengals 31-17 Falcons 7:57, 4th quarter
Oh my the Bernabéu looks beautiful doesn’t it? Inside the stadium Atlanta have the ball at their seven-yard line. And after a failed check down to Bijan Robinson they’re back at their four-yard line. Another couple of failed plays and the Falcons are punting. A huge failure after their defense managed to stop a visibly frustrated Joe Burrow.
Speaking of Burrow, he and Ja’Marr Chase have had a typically successful day. The Bengals quarterback is 23/28 for 260 yards and three touchdowns while Chase has nine receptions for 144 yards and a score.
Preamble
Hola football fans, cómo estás? At the midpoint of the season week nine is underway in Madrid with the Bengals currently beating the Falcons 31-17. Before we see how that one finishes there are seven games coming at 12pm CST/1pm EST/6pm GMT (home teams listed second):
-
(6-2) Denver Broncos v Carolina Panthers (3-4)
-
(3-5) Dallas Cowboys v Indianapolis Colts (2-6)
-
(2-6) New York Jets v Kansas City Chiefs (5-2)
-
(5-2) Detroit Lions v Miami Dolphins (1-6)
-
(5-3) Cleveland Browns v New Orleans Saints (2-5)
-
(4-2-1) New York Giants v Philadelphia Eagles (2-6)
-
(4-4) Los Angeles Rams v Washington Commanders (2-4-1)
A little bit of heat is on the Chiefs today as they host the Jets off the back of a two-game losing streak. On paper they should bounce back but the offensive weapons are still lacking for Patrick Mahomes so if Geno Smith and Braelon Allen can pick up where they left off last week (290 yards and two passing touchdowns and 147 rushing yards and a score respectively) then the Jets have a serious shot at an upset.
