Sad news from Charlton, following that abandonment of their lunchtime game with Portsmouth.
Club statement: “The club are devastated to report that a Charlton Athletic supporter has died following a medical emergency during today’s game at The Valley against Portsmouth.
“The match was halted in the 12th minute while the supporter received treatment and was subsequently postponed. The club would like to thank the Charlton staff and first responders who did everything they could, but sadly the supporter later passed away in hospital.
“The club are grateful to supporters in attendance and the Portsmouth players and staff for their patience and understanding as this tragedy unfolded. Everyone at the club sends their heartfelt condolences to the supporter’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

Xavi Simons with a brutal reducer, jumps up and gestures to the crowd to make more noise. An unlikely hard man but that’s what Tottenham have been missing this season.

City close in on Arsenal, as Foden’s corner sets up a Gvardiol header. Sunderland’s defensive wall has collapsed. The title race is on!

Grimsby are 3-0 up on Wealdstone, who have got no grounds to think they will be in the hat for the third round draw. Cheltenham have just equalised against Buxton.
Goal! Tottenham 1-0 Brentford (Richarlison, 25)
Tottenham score, Xaxi Simons playing in Richarlison but there’s a delay as the video assistant is asked to rule if there is an offside. The goal stands…and that was a tribute to the playmaking qualities of Simons.
Southampton, with Tonda Eckert as permanent manager, are beating Birmingham 2-0 in the Championship. Finn Azaz and Adam Armstrong got the goals.

Chelsea won this game last season, the goal scored by Christopher Nkunku – remember him – but late on. The goal set up by Jadon Sancho – remember him. Chelsea finding this one just as difficult. Bournemouth were poor in losing to Everton on Tuesday.
Manchester City 0-0 Sunderland
Sunderland have found a bit more time on the ball, and continue to impress. They have shown no fear of opponents this season. Oddly, I saw them a fortnight ago and they were awful against Fulham but have then resumed being good.
Newcastle 0-0 Burnley
Burnley have hit the bar, Aaron Ramsdale having a flap at a ball from Lucas Pires.
In the FA Cup, Grimsby have scored another goal against Wealdstone. You want some?
Everton 1-0 Nottingham Forest
It was Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, an astute signing by Everton, whose ball in was deflected into his own net by Nikola Milenkovic.
Manchester City 0-0 Sunderland
City have had 75% possession but only two shots on Sunderland’s goal, neither on target. Dan Ballard is very decent defender.
Newcastle 0-0 Burnley
Nick Woltemade has had a shot blocked and Big Dan Burn is receiving treatment. Will Yoane Wissa replace him?
Two early goals in the FA Cup: Grimsby are beating Wealdstone 1-0, and Swindon are leading Bolton 1-0.

Something of a damp start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but no boos yet, and no goals conceded, either.

Kluivert is fouled, and there’s a penalty call, Tavernier having beaten Fernandez BUT another offside flag.

Semenyo had the ball in the net, from an offside position, and it took fully 90 seconds to rule Evanilson had mistimed his run. Chelsea got a bit lucky there.

This game began like wildfire, with Savona booked for an early foul, and then Milenkovic deflected past his own keeper.

“It seems like only yesterday that they were playing in front of Martin Dubravka but the former Newcastle goalkeeper returns in Burnley colours today and still has not forgiven Howe for dropping him last season immediately after persuading him to sign a new contract and pull out of a move to Saudi Arabia at the 11th hour.”

Only one game on anyone’s mind in Scotland today, Scotland v Haiti on June 13 St. Mirren v Dundee United in Paisley, where both teams are in need of the points following poor runs. United have drawn five of their last eight, and played well at home to Rangers on Wednesday only to concede a 96th minute equaliser to leave them in eight place, while St. Mirren could end the day bottom if they lose and Livingston win at Motherwell. Other games include Hibs v Falkirk and struggling Dundee v Aberdeen. “

Billy is our man at Bournemouth today: “Cole Palmer makes his first league start for Chelsea since the opening day of the season in August. He is one of six changes that Enzo Maresca has made from the defeat at Leeds in midweek. Andrey Santos, one of those to drop out of the XI, has been out warming up with the rest of the starting players. Either Maresca has a fitness doubt in his XI or I’m reading too much into that.
”Bournemouth make four changes from their loss to Everton here on Tuesday. They may switch to a back three, with two right-backs – Álex Jiménez and Adam Smith – in the XI. We’ve had sunshine, rain and wind during the warm-up and now a rainbow. It’s all very pleasant.”

Stina Blackstenius got the late winner for the Gunners.
Huge game today for Thomas Frank, facing Brentford with Tottenham today. The draw at Newcastle, last minute though it was, calmed some of the storm but a repeat of last week’s display against Fulham and the home fans will be in uproar.
And in the Premier League, Leandro Trossard, who came on at half-time has levelled for Arsenal at Aston Villa.
Elsewhere in the Championship, crisis club Leicester are leading 3-0 at Derby.
Charlton v Portsmouth game called off
In the Championship, Charlton v Portsmouth has been abandoned:
“Due to a medical emergency in the crowd, today’s match has been abandoned. We thank you for your patience and understanding. Everyone at the club sends their best wishes to the supporter affected and thank our medical team and first responders. Information on when the match will be rescheduled will be announced in due course.”
It was 0-0, the game was just 15 minutes in.
