The Broadway leading lady and her new husband celebrated their July 18 wedding with Broadway friends, unforgettable surprises and deeply personal touches at every turn

Jessica Vosk and David Godar are officially married.

The Broadway leading lady and her fiancé, a metals and commodities trader, tied the knot on Saturday, July 18, during an enchanted forest wedding weekend at June Farms in West Sand Lake, N.Y., surrounded by 120 of their closest family members and friends.

PEOPLE has all the exclusive details from the three-day celebration, which transformed the Upstate New York locale into an unforgettable wedding weekend filled with thoughtful surprises at every turn.

But while every detail had been meticulously planned, Mother Nature had one surprise of its own. Thunderstorms rolled in just hours before Vosk, 42, and Godar, 43, were set to exchange vows, forcing the couple to move their ceremony from the woods to a tent overlooking the property’s iconic Highland cows.

“I was truly the MOST relaxed bride until we found out it would rain on the day of the ceremony,” Vosk tells PEOPLE. “I believe the words ‘Terrible, absolutely worst thing in my life’ was spoken from my mouth”

“My non-negotiable was that I had to get married in the woods. That morning, though, we had to make a split decision to change everything,” she continues. “And I’m willing to eat my words and say that the shift in ceremony, happening under a mist as we said our vows, was perfect. It was exactly the ceremony we wanted, with everyone we wanted in attendance.”

Among those witnessing the emotional ceremony were a star-studded group of friends spanning Broadway and beyond, including Ariana DeBose, Alex Newell, Karine Jean-Pierre, Scott and Mark Hoying, Jason Robert Brown and Georgia Stitt, Kecia Lewis, Katie Rose Clarke, Frank DiLella, Sarah Swann, Terrence Meck, Mary-Mitchell Campbell and Mike Isaacson, who also officiated the ceremony.

Festivities began Friday evening with a welcome dinner beside the farm’s goat pasture, where family and friends gathered for wood-fired pizzas and salads. Guests spent the weekend exploring the sprawling property, staying in one-of-a-kind accommodations — including a Hobbit House nestled in the woods — and taking part in activities like line dancing, horse walks, cow brushing and animal yoga.

Planning it all wasn’t exactly easy. Godar popped the question while Vosk was starring in Hell’s Kitchen on Broadway, and the two spent much of their engagement planning the wedding while she led the new musical Beaches.

“She had less than no time to sit and plan,” Godar says. “But Blaire Katz at Gilded Lily Events and I were there to pick up the pieces.”

“Dave was a VERY opinionated groom,” she jokes.

Still, there was never any debate where the wedding would take place. Growing up in the woods of central New Jersey, Vosk had long envisioned what she calls an “enchanted forest fairytale,” and June Farms immediately felt like the perfect fit for both her and Godar.

That theme extended into nearly every detail of the weekend, beginning with custom save-the-dates and stationery by Cheree Berry Paper & Design built around the theme “Opposites Attract” — a nod to their unlikely pairing.

Their journey to “I do” began nearly three years earlier with a swipe on Hinge.

In the summer of 2023, Vosk traveled to St. Louis to star in Chess at The Muny. With long rehearsal days and little to do in her downtime, she jokingly decided to try her luck on the dating app to, as she puts it, “look for a local ‘hottie’ to ‘make out with’ (SORRY MOM).”

That “hottie” turned out to be Godar. “The question he asked that sealed the first date deal was, ‘What do you mean your profession is Broadway?’ ” Vosk recalls.

After two whirlwind dates — and, she admits, trying very hard to get him to kiss her — the pair quickly fell into a long-distance relationship, flying back and forth between New York and St. Louis before Godar proposed on Sept. 1, 2025.

Less than a year later, Vosk was walking down the aisle in a romantic long-sleeved, high neck, Italian lace gown by Neta Dover with an embroidered long train.

It was just one of five bridal looks Vosk wore over the course of the weekend. Working with Kleinfeld Bridal — “who rolled out the red carpet for myself, my mom and dear friends for my initial day of dress pulls” — as well as longtime stylist Olivia Battle and Sarah Swann, creative director of Amsale, the Broadway star curated a wedding wardrobe that was as theatrical as the celebration itself.”

She kicked off the festivities Friday night in a bespoke, corseted V-neck Amsale gown (paired with custom cowboy boots from Nashville, natch). After Saturday’s ceremony gown, which Battle pulled from the Kleinfeld archives, she slipped into an orchid-inspired Amsale couture look with an ankle-length tulle skirt for dinner.

Vosk then closed out the night by “humoring my mom” in a sparkling Nicole Felicia Couture gown from Kleinfeld Bridal “that I would normally never pick out.” It became the perfect look for an end-of-evening party, and made Vosk the very first bride to wear the design.

On Sunday, Vosk finished the weekend in a whimsical lace and bowtie bespoke Amsale nightie look for the couple’s “Coffee & Carbs” farewell brunch.

For each ensemble, Vosk accessorized with custom jewelry by Natasa Valocchi of Celestial Heirlooms and shoes from Cult Gaia.

Meanwhile, Godar matched his now-wife with three looks of his own, including a creamy tan vest and matching dress pants with a crisp white shirt for the rehearsal dinner. On Saturday, he wore a three-piece blue suit for the ceremony, and changed later into a black tux for dancing.

Despite the coordinated changes, Godar managed not to see Vosk’s ceremony dress until she turned the corner to come down the aisle.

She arrived at the ceremony in a vintage red Ford pickup truck driven by June Farms owner Matt Baumgartner before walking arm-in-arm with her mother to her parents’ wedding song, John Denver’s “Today.”

Sharing the moment with her mother carried extra meaning for Vosk. Just two years earlier, her mother underwent brain surgery for stage 4 glioblastoma. “She has defied the odds,” says Vosk, who surprised her mom with a custom pink sapphire ring commemorating what the family considers nothing short of a miracle.

Her father, who died unexpectedly in 2023, was never far from her thoughts, either. His initials, written in his own handwriting, were embroidered into her veil, ensuring he was with her as she said “I do.”

A romantic ambiance carried through the ceremony, the pitter patter of raindrops falling as Vosk and Godar exchanged vows and coordinating silver diamond bands (his including a blue stone that matches her engagement ring). The tent felt like a hidden woodland garden, too, thanks to Vosk’s longtime friend and landscape designer Ryan McEnaney, who filled the space with lush greenery and white hydrangeas inspired by the same varieties he has cultivated for Martha Stewart’s famed gardens.

Guests emerged from the ceremony into a reception that was just as beautiful. A mix of florals and tea lights centered the long wood tables, with pink fabric chargers and white ceramic plates topped with green napkins.

Dinner was family-style on farm-to-table dishes prepared by Crafted Catering, who the couple calls “an Albany favorite.” The menu for the whole weekend, all spearheaded by the company, included “some of the best food we’ve ever had,” they say.

Alongside an open bar, Vosk and Godar — who are both sober — made sure non-drinkers had plenty to celebrate with, too, offering an extensive mocktail menu made up of some of their go-to brands (Naughty wine, Recess Therapy drinks, St. Agrestis Phony Negronis).

Dessert became another deeply personal moment. Rather than choosing a single wedding cake, the newlyweds opted for two.

One was a classic three-tiered white cake layered with fresh lemon curd and local raspberries beneath Swiss meringue buttercream. The second, a gluten-free cinnamon vanilla cake with dulce de leche filling, featured adorable figurines of Fred and Loki appearing to sneak bites from the frosting.

The cakes carried their own story, too.

They were created by Utah baker Sandy Lambert, who first met Vosk as a fan before the two became friends. Years earlier, Lambert had jokingly told the Broadway star to remember her whenever she got married.

“I’m a loyal gal, what can I say!” Vosk says. “We flew her out to Albany, and the rest is history. The cakes were a total HIT.”

As dinner gave way to dancing, Vosk had one more surprise waiting for her new husband.

The couple’s first dance was set to Forest Blakk’s “If You Love Her,” a song that had become deeply meaningful throughout their relationship. But unbeknownst to Godar, the singer himself had quietly traveled to June Farms to perform it live.

Just before the surprise could begin, however, a deafening crack of thunder echoed across the property.

The unexpected interruption silenced the room. Thinking quickly, Vosk turned toward their guests. “This is definitely a sign from my dad,” she announced, the crowd erupting into applause in what became one of the most unforgettable moments of the evening.

The surprises didn’t stop there. Later in the reception, Newell — a Tony winner and Glee alum — jumped onstage with the band, led by Angela Birchett, for an impromptu performance of Newell’s 2016 hit, “Kill the Lights,” transforming the elegant reception into a full-fledged Broadway party as guests packed the dance floor.

As the celebration stretched late into the night, the newlyweds soaked in every moment of the weekend they had spent months planning — one that ultimately proved even more magical because it hadn’t unfolded exactly as expected.

Now, with a wedding behind them and a new home they’re already busy decorating together (“yes we just bought a house, too. How insane are we??”), the couple says marriage feels less like the beginning of their story than turning the page on their ongoing one.

“We have officially put the seal on creating a new chapter of life together,” they tell PEOPLE. “We talk about how amazing it was to meet after we turned 40. There was a sense of independence, both in personal and career accomplishments. We knew who we were, and we know that we chose this relationship because we WANTED to, not because we felt we needed to.”

“Life has not changed much,” they add, “but marriage was the cherry on top.”

Asked what they admire most about one another, both answer without hesitation.

“I love his authenticity,” Vosk says of her husband. “His kind heart, and his ability to make everyone around him feel seen and heard. As a very high-octane, easily stressed gal in the entertainment industry, Dave is my calming, grounding force. He has made me a less anxious human being, and has made me take time to appreciate how beautiful life can be with the right person.”

Then, laughing, she sums him up in a way only she can. “He is the anchor to my balloon,” she says. “He’s also got a great butt.”

Godar is just as quick to praise his new wife. “I love how completely unfiltered she is,” he says. “She is honest and authentic, and I never have to guess how she’s feeling or what she thinks about something.”

“And her talent is otherworldly. She is a world-class singer, a fantastic actor, incredibly funny and witty, super creative… and the fact that she is all of those things at once makes her utterly singular.”

His favorite place to watch all of that, though, isn’t necessarily from the audience. “Watching her perform is literally my favorite thing in the world,” he says. “Whether I’m watching her onstage or hanging out with her at home, she makes my life infinitely more entertaining and enjoyable.”

The newlyweds aren’t rushing off on a honeymoon just yet. Instead, they’ll steal a few quiet weeks together in Joshua Tree this September before Vosk begins her next project this fall, with hopes of eventually adding a South African safari onto one of her future work trips.

For now, they’re simply looking forward to settling into their new home with Fred and Loki by their side, cheering one another on through whatever comes next.

“We hope it continues to provide as much fun, or more, than we’ve had already,” they say. “Neither of us plans to stop in our respective careers anytime soon, so it makes for a very colorful life.”

And Godar might just have a new career path worth exploring. “He’s also become Jessica’s audition reader for every self-tape,” the couple jokes. “So he’s really becoming quite the actor himself. DEAR GOD.”
