Gang of Youths, the ARIA Award-winning quartet have announced a special one-night-only performance at Anita’s Theatre, Thirroul, on Thursday 6 August, bringing one of Australia’s most celebrated live acts back to a venue built for close quarters and unforgettable nights.
Led by David Le’aupepe alongside Donnie Borzestowski, Jung Kim and Tom Hobden, Gang Of Youths have spent the past decade carving out a singular place in Australian music. Their soaring, emotionally charged songwriting has produced modern classics including Magnolia, The Deepest Sighs, the Frankest Shadows, What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out? and the angel of 8th ave, while their live performances have become the benchmark against which many Australian bands are measured.
Their ascent was cemented with 2017’s Go Farther in Lightness, a landmark album that topped the ARIA Albums Chart and established the band as one of the country’s defining rock acts. They repeated the feat with 2022’s angel in realtime., earning widespread critical acclaim while continuing to build an international audience through sold-out tours and support slots alongside Foo Fighters, Mumford & Sons and Sam Fender.
The Anita’s Theatre announcement arrives as something of a gift for fans who missed out on their Opera House performances which have sold out, or simply want to experience the band in a room that allows every lyric and every swell of emotion to land with even greater force. It’s the sort of venue where Gang Of Youths’ expansive songs can feel surprisingly intimate, making this a fitting way to mark their long-awaited return to the stage.
