Canadian punk veterans Propagandhi will return to Australia and Aotearoa in early 2027, marking their first tour of the region in nearly eight years and bringing with them a catalogue that has consistently challenged the political and social status quo.

The Manitoba outfit will tour in support of their eighth studio album, At Peace, a record that continues the uncompromising approach that has defined the band since their formation in 1986. Across four decades, Propagandhi have evolved from their skate-punk beginnings into one of punk’s most respected and intellectually ambitious bands, combining technical musicianship with lyrics that confront fascism, inequality and environmental collapse without sacrificing intensity.

For guitarist and vocalist Chris Hannah, the themes explored on At Peace are a continuation rather than a departure. While the convictions remain rooted in the perspective that informed the band’s 1993 debut, How to Clean Everything, the emotional landscape has shifted.

“Everything I’m singing about is still coming from being the same person that wrote and sang our first record,” Hannah explains. “But what we’re putting into the songs now probably reflects more despair than 30 years ago… Now it’s the existential dread of eking out a life worth living in this completely failed society.”

That willingness to evolve without compromising their principles has helped Propagandhi remain a singular voice within punk. Their music has consistently resisted easy categorisation, blending elements of hardcore, thrash metal and melodic punk while refusing the ideological conservatism that has occasionally surfaced within the genre. Instead, the band’s work has remained grounded in activism, critical thinking and an insistence that punk can be as intellectually rigorous as it is sonically confrontational.

Their return comes at a moment when many of the issues that have informed their songwriting for decades continue to dominate public discourse. Whether audiences have followed the band since the early 1990s or discovered them more recently through At Peace, the 2027 tour offers the opportunity to experience one of punk’s most enduring and consistently challenging live acts back on Australian and New Zealand stages.
