With a Homecoming show Infront of  nearly 50,000 fans Nick Cave brings  a spellbinding harmonious set with a special Guest Kyle Minogue!

Nick Cave has made Brighton his base for decades amongst the Seaside town’s artistic flair and hippie culture! The Australian singer, born in rural Victoria, is the front man of  the rock Group ‘The Seeds’ and is known for his baritone voice and characterized emotional intensity. He has a wide variety of influences and lyrical obsessions. He has quoted ‘ This is where I wake, write and eat’. He followed his wife here and usually would only stay in one place for a short while as his early career was spent in London. After the tragic death of his younger brother he left to morn elsewhere, only to return to this magical city!

Early revelers were treated to a secret rooftop gig on top of the infamous Resident Records in the narrow North Laines before the perfectly selected Bill in the Park, including Warmduscher, Cat Le Bon, and Flaming Lips to keep any and every one entertained for the only dedicated Nick Cave show in the UK this year! The layout of the Park not quite suited the on masses as its positioned on the main throughway into Brighton with an elongated shape with stage set directly in the setting sun!

With punters already filling up the spaces, Punk rock Outfit ‘Warmduscher’ descended with a Carnation of ‘Standing On the Corner.  The band formed on a New Years eve back in 2014 at a house party  and have established themselves as the most bizarre band!  It’s no mean feat that their early set to the mighty Nick Cave to play some chaotic theatrical guitar riffs to get the crowd going. But managed to keep the audience engaged.

By contract, ‘Cat le Bon’ appeared on stage with a more dreamy set with some melodic songs. ‘Daylight Matters’ appeared more  edgy as she stayed in near motionless in front of the mic. The Welch singer has most recently helped to produce the  ‘Dry Cleaning’ album ‘Secret Love’

Up next on the Bill were the critically acclaimed ‘English Teacher’.  The Leeds band seemed right at home on the big stage with a cover version of T-Rex ‘Cosmic Dancer’ played to the largest crowd they have every seen. They songs are dreampop with some psychedelia mixed in. With ‘Lily Fontaine’ tight vocals the set oozed pure brilliance.

‘The Flaming Lips’ with front man Wayne Coyne is always pure artistic mayhem and it is an amazement how he keeps going from forming in Oklahoma City back in 1983 to this day!. The band started out playing ‘garage punk’ and ‘noise pop’ before branching into more experimental territory. Soon the memorable inflatables came out for ‘Yoshimi Battles the pink Robots’ The shenanigans created the greatest cheer from the crowds. A more somber turn was dedicating ‘Every teardrop cried’ to his brother who had tragically died. Soon the madness continued with for inflatables and confetti aplenty to entrance everyone that was present.

With over 43 years behind his back, Nick Cave has become an iconic household name with his every shifting ensemble ‘the Bad seeds’ and has an owe inspiring back catalogue. Tonight’s set list spanned most of his career to please the crowd. Nick Cave was on top form with audience engagement right from the first chords of ‘Get ready for the crowds’ everyone just erupted when he announced Kylie Minogue, who floated on stage with big smiles wearing a  white dress for the song Where the Wild Roses Grow’

The Ballard ‘Wide Lovely Eyes’ was passionately dedicated to his Wife Suzie as its “about her and Brighton Beach”. In-between songs Cave talks wittingly to the crowd as well as keeping the momentum going. It was the first time Nick Cave has performed in Brighton with ‘The Bad Seeds’ since 2013. It was evident that his return was very meaningful to him as well as Brightonians!
