Jordan Rakei will return to Australia and New Zealand this December, bringing his expansive blend of soul, jazz and alternative R&B back to local audiences in support of his forthcoming seventh studio album, Safe Place to Be Wild, due for release on 30 October via Fontana.
Presented by Finely Tuned, the tour begins at Auckland Town Hall on 3 December before heading to The Princess Theatre in Brisbane, Tumbalong Park in Sydney as part of the FORMA Open-Air series, and concluding at Melbourne’s Forum on 10 December.
Over the past decade, Rakei has quietly established himself as one of contemporary music’s most distinctive voices. Born in New Zealand, raised in Australia and now based in London, he has built a catalogue that moves effortlessly between neo-soul, jazz, electronic music and alternative R&B, earning acclaim for richly layered songwriting and meticulous musicianship.
That reputation has seen him collaborate with artists including Loyle Carner, Tom Misch, Nubya Garcia, Jalen Ngonda, JUNGLE’s Tom McFarland and Ezra Collective’s Femi Koleoso, while his live performances have taken him from Glastonbury to two sold-out nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall.
His forthcoming album, Safe Place to Be Wild, promises another step forward. Described as his most instinctive and emotionally direct work to date, the record explores vulnerability, self-acceptance and creative freedom, examining what it means to embrace uncertainty rather than resist it. The Australian and New Zealand dates will offer audiences an early opportunity to experience this new material live before Rakei embarks on his largest UK and European headline tour in 2027.
Whether performing intimate piano-led ballads, intricate jazz-inflected compositions or expansive soul arrangements, Rakei has consistently blurred genre boundaries without losing sight of melody. His December return continues a career built less on chasing trends than on refining a singular musical voice that has steadily resonated with audiences around the world.
