Sheffield’s summer of live music isn’t quite finished yet. Just weeks after Tramlines brought tens of thousands of music fans into the city, another major festival is preparing to roll into the Steel City — complete with a Big Top, aerialists, fire performers and some very familiar British guitar bands.

Rock N Roll Circus returns to Don Valley Bowl from August 27–30, turning the August Bank Holiday weekend into four days of indie, rock, Britpop nostalgia and circus mayhem.

And if you missed out on some of Sheffield’s biggest gigs earlier in the summer, there’s still time to get yourself under the big top.

Thursday night could be the one for anyone who spent their teenage years with Inside In/Inside Out permanently lodged in their CD player.

The Kooks headline the opening night, with the Brighton band performing their hugely popular debut album in full. Expect Naive, She Moves in Her Own Way, Seaside and plenty of other songs that have somehow survived the journey from mid-2000s indie disco to 2026 festival anthem.

And they won’t be doing it alone. Sheffield favourites Milburn are also on the bill, alongside Miles Kane, with The Clause, Day We Ran, The Kairos, Spanish Horses and Cruz Beckham & The Breakers also appearing throughout the day.

The Thursday show currently has tickets available, making it one of the more tempting options for anyone who wants a big festival atmosphere without committing to the entire weekend.

Richard Ashcroft is closing the circus

If Thursday is for the indie kids, Sunday is very much for anyone who believes a festival isn’t complete without a massive chorus.

Richard Ashcroft will bring the Sheffield edition to a close on Sunday, August 30, heading up a bill that also features The Fratellis, Cast and Embrace.

It’s a pretty serious collection of British guitar music for one afternoon — and Ashcroft has more than enough anthems in the locker to turn Don Valley Bowl into one giant singalong.

Expect the inevitable Bitter Sweet Symphony moment, but also a set drawing from Ashcroft’s solo career and his time as frontman of The Verve.

Tickets for the Sunday are currently available, with general admission listed by Ticketmaster at £78.90 at the time of writing.

The Streets are bringing A Grand Don’t Come For Free to the Big Top in full, alongside Babyshambles, Casisdead, Hak Baker, KhakiKid, Ellur and Sweets.

Saturday has a similarly hefty draw with Wunderhorse headlining, backed by Baxter Dury, English Teacher, Fat Dog, Gurriers, Basht., The Molotovs and more.

Tramlines has already delivered its annual dose of huge crowds and live music, but Rock N Roll Circus gives the city another reason to keep the summer going as the August Bank Holiday arrives.

Rather than a conventional festival set-up, Rock N Roll Circus mixes the music with aerialists, acrobats, fire performers, contortionists, stilt walkers and other circus acts, with the main performances taking place beneath the Big Top.

Rock N Roll Circus is also heading to Earlham Park in Norwich, where the 2026 edition runs from August 20–23. The Norwich line-up includes The Streets, The Kooks and Madness as its headline attractions, with The Vaccines, The Fratellis, Ocean Colour Scene, The Wailers, The Selecter and David Rodigan among the supporting acts. But for Sheffield, it’s the combination of The Kooks on Thursday and Richard Ashcroft on Sunday that gives the weekend a particularly strong bookend.

With The Streets and Wunderhorse already approaching sell-out territory, those two dates may be the best remaining chance to get a taste of Rock N Roll Circus without having to fight for one of the festival’s fastest-disappearing tickets.
