First Nations rapper, songwriter and storyteller SHANI makes her debut with ‘YALANJI GIRL’, a high-energy introduction that puts culture, identity and lyrical confidence firmly at its centre.

Released today, ‘YALANJI GIRL’ is SHANI’s first official single, but it arrives with the assurance of an artist who has been developing her craft well before stepping into public view. Of Kuku Yalanji, Gugu Badhun and Yidinji-Wadjanbarra heritage, SHANI draws directly from her roots while establishing herself as a new voice in Australian hip hop. 

There is little hesitation about the track’s intentions. ‘YALANJI GIRL’ is bold and immediate, using SHANI’s identity not as background detail but as the foundation of the song.
