The New Jersey psychotherapist and young mother who died after being found fatally stabbed in her bedroom has been laid to rest.
Brooke Hanlon succumbed to her injuries shortly after her husband James “Conor” Hanlon discovered her on the floor of the home they had purchased just two years prior in Chester, a wealthy enclave located 40 miles west of New York City.
That was on the afternoon of June 6.
Officials launched an investigation into Brooke’s death that evening, but in the ensuing 72 days police have yet to identify any persons of interest or suspects in the case — or make any arrests.
When asked about the case, a spokesperson for the Morris County Attorney’s Office told PEOPLE there were no updates at this time.

Despite being just 35 at the time of her death, Brooke lived a remarkable life, as evidenced by her obituary.
“Although Brooke’s passing has left a permanent hole in our hearts, our lives — and the lives of all those who have ever truly known this remarkable woman — are infinitely better by having been graced by her time on earth,” read the tribute to Brooke.
She is described as a “gift from God” and “a truly loving wife” who later became “an extraordinary mother to her darling Avery” after the birth of her daughter.
“Her bond with her beloved Avery was spiritual, holy, and will be everlasting,” the obituary read.

She was also a wonderful friend thanks to her “extraordinary kindness, friendship, loyalty, empathy, compassion, humility, generosity” with a “passionate desire to help and support family, friends, and all those she counseled.”
She moved to Chester at the age of 9 and stayed there until heading off to college at Wake Forest and then grad school at Northeastern University.
During those years Brooke also volunteered by “providing child care for children with autism and emotional challenges, working with underprivileged children in India who were facing various personal challenges, tutoring a young Spanish child during a study abroad in Seville, Spain, helping to raise money to build schools in Uganda, and volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and as a teacher’s aide at a pre-school in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.”
It was while she was in Boston working towards her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology that she met Conor, and the two would spend the next decade together in Boston.
The couple wed in 2021, bought their home in Chester in 2024 and then welcomed Avery in 2025. In July, Avery celebrated her first birthday just one month after her mother’s death.
Conor, who returned to his hometown of Brighton in Massachusetts a few weeks after his wife’s death, has since returned to New Jersey, according to at least three local residents who tell PEOPLE that they had seen his vehicle parked outside the house in the past week.
In the 911 call, a copy of which was obtained by PEOPLE, Conor can be heard telling the dispatcher that he found his wife with multiple stab wounds and unable to breathe on the second floor of their home.
It is unclear whether he provided additional details about his whereabouts before finding his wife’s body because approximately 10 seconds appear to have been removed from the 911 call.
When the audio returns, the dispatcher can be heard saying: “Tell me exactly what happened. I know you were saying.”
Conor cuts him off and said, “I was gone…”
He did not finish the sentence, instead shouting that his wife was not breathing and needed CPR. Conor became even more emotional and upset when he then discovered what he termed a “laceration” on Brooke’s body.
The dispatcher then instructed Conor to perform CPR, which he did for close to five minutes while waiting for first responders.
Local police declined to confirm the victim’s name for three weeks after she was killed in her home.
The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office did release a statement saying that an autopsy “determined the cause of death to be multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of death as homicide.”
