The ‘Spa Weekend’ star jokingly says that the three kids she shares with ex Sacha Baron Cohen “are my friends in my life”

Isla Fisher is shedding light on her life since separating from Sacha Baron Cohen.

Ahead of the release of gal-pal comedy Spa Weekend (in theaters now), leading ladies Fisher, Leslie Mann, Michelle Buteau and Anna Faris tell PEOPLE about how their own friendships reflected those onscreen. 

“We’re at a time in our lives where there isn’t room for nurturing female friendships. There’s no time,” says Faris, 49, calling her time filming the comedy in Australia “magical.” 

“If you have those high school friends or whatever, your friends that you can trust, that you depend on,” the mom of one adds, she finds herself telling them, “Can I hang out with you in a decade when the kid graduates?”

“I mean, speak for yourself,” responds Fisher, 50, with a laugh. “I’m divorced, so all I do is see friends!”

The Australian actress, who shares three children with her ex-husband, jokes that her kids “are my friends in my life. So I’m in a different place.” 

Friends of hers, Fisher adds, “understand how it goes” when it comes to busy Hollywood actors’ schedules. “You can disappear for three months.”

Fisher and Cohen, 54, announced they were splitting after over 13 years of marriage in April 2024, revealing in a social media post that they had filed for divorce the previous year. It was finalized in June 2025. The actors share two daughters and a son. 

Spa Weekend, from writer-directors Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, held a special screening in Las Vegas on Aug. 7, hosted by Southwest Airlines. (After the movie’s theatrical debut, Southwest will be the only airline to feature Spa Weekend as part of its inflight entertainment throughout the month of November.)

Speaking to PEOPLE at the event’s red carpet, Fisher calls her work-life balance these days “great,” saying, “I feel really grateful to be working. I feel really grateful to be a woman of my age in the business. And I’m really happy to be in a movie like this.”

The comedy from distributor Black Bear follows “four lifelong friends who realize that somewhere between careers, relationships, families and everyday responsibilities, they have forgotten how to take care of themselves and each other,” per an official synopsis. 

Speaking to PEOPLE back in March at the TIME Women Of The Year Gala, Fisher shared that she was initially “so nervous about” turning 50 but has embraced this time in her life. 

“I feel so liberated. There’s [also] something about being divorced where you just feel like you could just do anything,” she said. “You could just do anything, and someone would be like, ‘Oh, don’t worry. She’s divorced.’”

Spa Weekend is in theaters as of Friday, Aug. 21.
