Ahsoka is inching closer to returning for season 2.

The Star Wars series — which debuted on Aug. 23, 2023, on Disney+ — stars Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano and takes place after Darth Vader’s death in 1983’s Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.

Dawson returns for season 2 alongside Natasha Liu Bordizzo and Lars Mikkelsen, among others. Rory McCann is also joining the cast for season 2.

“To have the adventure continue and be able to share this next season with folks is a dream come true,” Dawson told Variety in August 2026.

How did Ahsoka season 1 end?

At the end of season 1, Ahsoka, Sabine and Ezra reunite.

What happened between Ahsoka and Sabine is also revealed, as Huyang explains Ahsoka feared her Padawan was training with a dark-side spirit after the Empire killed her family and wiped out Mandalore. Ahead of the last episode, Ahsoka confirmed she would stand by Sabine because they had aired their issues.

The finale also introduces zombie stormtroopers and sees the ruthless Morgan Elsbeth die in a lightsaber duel with Ahsoka — a sacrifice that allows the Grand Admiral Thrawn and the Great Mothers to escape. Ezra ends up on Thrawn’s ship but manages to get off and reunite with Hera and Chopper.

In the end, the force ghost of Anakin Skywalker is still looking over Ahsoka, who tells Sabine it’s time to move on.

What is Ahsoka season 2 about?

Season 2 of Ahsoka will follow the titular character and Sabine as they travel across the galaxy to find their way home, per Deadline.

The duo, along with their friends, will continue to face Grand Admiral Thrawn and his evil allies who aim to bring the New Republic deep into war, per the outlet.

Series creator Dave Filoni told PEOPLE at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event that he is aiming to make season 2 better than the first. 

“That’s kind of a progression of every time you do a painting, you should improve from what you learned on the last painting, make the next one better,” he said in August 2026.

Which cast members are returning for Ahsoka season 2?

Dawson is grateful the adventure continues for Ahsoka. 

“To have such a breadth of material to look back on and kind of use to build memory for this character and build on has been so incredible,” she told PEOPLE.

Along with Bordizzo and Mikkelsen, Hayden Christensen will also return as Anakin Skywalker.

“My favorite thing about getting to come back and play this character is that I get to play with a lightsaber,” Christensen told PEOPLE. “When I was in the prequels, that was one of my favorite things was lightsaber work, and every time I get to do that I’m very happy.”

Eman Esfandi, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ivanna Sakhno will also return for season 2.

Are any new cast members joining Ahsoka season 2?

McCann is joining the cast for season 2, per Deadline.

The Game of Thrones alum is taking over the role of evil former Jedi Baylan Skoll for the late Ray Stevenson, who died in May 2023.

When will Ahsoka season 2 be released?

At D23, the cast and crew of Ahsoka announced that season 2 will be released on Jan. 20, 2027.

Yes! Disney released a trailer for Ahsoka season 2 at D23 in August 2026.

Packed with plenty of lightsaber duels and galaxy battles, Thrawn declares war on the rebel alliance in the trailer. It also features Ahsoka sharing that she had a vision foretelling “more and more danger” than she originally prepared for.

As the Force ghost of Anakin remains by Ahsoka’s side, he tells her, “It’s time to decide. Are you a Jedi or not?”
