Hamburg trio Seasurfer return with The Noise Is Ours, a four-track EP that blends swirling electronics, ethereal atmospherics and fuzzy guitar textures into the intoxicating sound the band describe as “dream-punk”. While that label certainly fits, the for me is firmly rooted in shoegaze tradition – a beautiful, messy, otherworldly wall of sound which contrasts emotion and grungy, reverb soaked intensity.

Opening track ‘Flurry Glory’ begins with swirling synths, a plucky bassline and angelic, reverb-drenched vocals before quickly unfolding into its full shoegaze splendour. Punching drums and beautifully melodic, fuzz-soaked guitars combine to create a melancholic yet intensely immersive wall of sound. Grungy, dark and strangely beautiful, the track moves between soaring vocal passages and messy, visceral guitar work, while flashes of spoken word provide an intriguing contrast to the cymbal-heavy percussion and relentless momentum.

‘Into the Noise’ introduces a synth-led sound that recalls the shimmering electronics of School of Seven Bells, while the spacious reverbs and dreamlike atmosphere of ‘Ring the Bells’ evoke the haunting elegance of Cocteau Twins. Despite these touchpoints, Seasurfer never feel derivative, instead drawing from familiar influences to shape a sound that remains distinctly their own.

For years, Seasurfer have occupied a unique place within the European and American alternative underground, building a reputation around an intensely atmospheric take on shoegaze. Their music thrives on contradiction: towering, noise-saturated guitars and propulsive rhythms are set against fragile, breathy vocals, creating a constant tension between the immense and the intimate.

The Noise Is Ours draws on themes of transience, loss, rediscovery and, ultimately, love. Rather than presenting a single narrative, the EP embraces cryptic songwriting, allowing its meanings to shift with each listener.
