Alisa Goods was found dead 12 days after she was seen collapsing on airport video surveillance

Police are sharing new details about how the body of a missing New York grandmother was found near a Las Vegas airport.

Alisa Goods, 63, traveled to Las Vegas to see a friend when she disappeared after leaving his home to shop and visit a CVS on Aug. 8, two days before her family reported her missing, ABC affiliate KTNV reported. The friend also reported Goods missing that same day when she did not return his phone calls or texts, according to NBC affiliate KSNV.

In a statement previously obtained by PEOPLE, the police department said Goods, a grandmother of five, was identified after her body was found in a “drainage ditch area near Wayne Newton Boulevard and the Terminal 1 parking garage at Harry Reid International Airport.”

“Subsequent review of video surveillance from the airport shows the woman falling down an embankment, getting back up and then collapsing on August 8, 2026,” police added. “There was no further movement observed after that. Her location could not be seen from the street.”

Now, police have revealed that her body was discovered by a homeless man, Fox affiliate KVVU reported. He then told parking attendants, who called police.

Her cause of death is not yet publicly known.

The Las Vegas Police Department did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Following her disappearance, Goods’ family told KTNV that someone started responding to messages using her phone, requesting money and Bitcoin.

“It’s not her,” Goods’ niece, Alana Calloway, recalled thinking of the sender. “And I just kept feeling like I lost my breath. It took my breath away, I couldn’t breathe.”

When her body was found 12 days after her disappearance, Calloway wrote in a statement obtained by KTNV that their “hearts are broken.”

“We were notified that my aunt was found-unfortunately, not the way we wanted her to be,” she said. “This is an unimaginable time. Words cannot describe the pain our family is experiencing right now.”

“We just want to thank the public for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers,” Calloway continued. “We also want to thank the media for helping bring attention to this situation. This hurts so deeply. We are still trying to learn the details surrounding her death. We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we grieve.”

Goods’ daughter, Kristen, launched a GoFundMe to help with funeral and other costs following her death, which has since raised over $17,000 as of Thursday, Aug. 27.
