Jamie Foxx is reflecting on his 2023 near-death medical emergency.
It’s been three years since the actor, 58, suffered a brain bleed that led to a stroke while making his movie Back in Action.
While appearing on the Tuesday, August 25, edition of Baby, This is Keke Palmer, Foxx said the health scare was something he “couldn’t make sense of.”
The parts that he does remember, like the rehabilitation process, were frustrating because he didn’t understand why he needed a “second chance.”

“What was wrong with my first chance? This doesn’t happen to anybody. How does it happen to me?” he recalled thinking.
Foxx said he was “always joking all the time” because he “only had comedy to lean on.”
Following the stroke, the actor jokingly took on the personalities of some of his peers, including Denzel Washington, which made it harder to tell whether he was okay.
“That’s the only way I could find myself,” said Foxx. “ Because here’s the trueness of it. Like, when this all transpired, I went back to meet the 60 nurses that kept me alive. Because I don’t quite remember.”
Foxx’s daughter Corinne, 32, said she didn’t have time to be scared for her father.

“When you’re in it, you don’t have time to be scared because your brain overhauls adrenaline,” she said. “You’re in caretaking mode, and you’re never really ready to take care of your parent. You’re never ready for that moment, but when it happened, I was like, ‘I got this.’ ”
Foxx’s daughter issued a statement on Instagram on April 12, 2023, revealing that the actor was on the mend after facing a “medical complication.”

The Oscar winner spoke out about his medical scare for the first time in a July 2023 Instagram clip.
“I did go through … I went to hell and back,” said Foxx. “And my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But I’m coming back. And I’m able to work.”
