Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds and three of their four children’s birthdays— and the couple’s wedding anniversary — fall between August and December each year

Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively have plenty of birthdays to celebrate within their family in a short timeframe each year.

“I’m in birthday alley,” Reynolds, who turns 50 on Oct. 23, told PEOPLE on the red carpet at the Monday, Aug. 31 premiere of his new movie Mayday, when asked how he and Lively, 39, celebrated her birthday on Aug. 25.

Lively’s birthday kicks off a period every year in which the two actors celebrate their own birthdays and three of their four children’s birthdays in a 113-day window.

“My kids, we have about four of our family members all just back to back to back to back,” Reynolds says. “It’s birthday alley, and it goes right on into Christmas. Ceaseless. Basically, yeah, to my 50th birthday. I mean, crazy. I’m mostly breathing in helium all day, filling balloons, emptying balloons, filling more balloons. That is birthday alley.”

Reynolds and Lively share four young children: James, who turns 12 in December, Inez, who turns 10 in September, Betty, who turns 7 in October and Olin, whose fourth birthday does not fall until winter 2027.

On top of the family’s birthday-themed gauntlet they run at the end of each summer and through the fall, Reynolds and Lively celebrate their 14th wedding anniversary on Sept. 9.

“Yes, but again, birthday alley,” he quips, when asked about the anniversary on the red carpet. “You’re forgetting birthday alley. The whole thing turns into one giant mosh pit celebration of balloons and confetti. All the way through Christmas.”

Given all the celebrations each fall, Reynolds says he is content to celebrate his own birthday quietly.

“I don’t like birthdays. I mean, I’m fine with it. I don’t bemoan a birthday, but I’m not like, ‘Hey, let’s have a huge party for me.’ I’m good. I get enough attention,” he adds. “I was just on a red carpet. This is plenty.”

Reynolds kicked off the forthcoming months of his family’s celebrations on Aug. 25 when he shared several photos of Lively and himself on Instagram in celebration of her birthday.

“August 25th is this family’s Super Bowl™️. Happy Birthday to the very best human I know,” he wrote in a caption to that post. “You’re not just another courageous and deeply kind genius. You’re also unreasonably cute. I know how lucky I am that you were born. Every time I’ve ever hit my head, it’s YOUR life that flashes before my eyes.”

For now, though, Reynolds is celebrating the release of his new Apple TV Mayday, a 1987-set action-comedy that sees him play a U.S. Navy fighter pilot whose plane goes down over Soviet Russia during a secret mission, forcing him to try and escape the country with the help of an ex-KGB agent with a strong interest in American pop culture (Kenneth Branagh).
