“I made a terrible judgment call and I feel so f—ing awful about that,” podcaster Amanda Hirsch wrote in her public apology

Amanda Hirsch, host of the popular Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, has issued an apology after facing backlash for incorporating the Lindsay Clancy trial into a branded advertisement on her show.

Hirsch, 37, shared the apology on Instagram on Sunday, Aug. 6.

“Posting about the Lindsay Clancy trial in the same breath as a brand partnership was completely insensitive, wrong, and out of character for me — I should have known better, and I feel sick that I didn’t see that in the moment,” the influencer began her message, which had the comments section disabled.

“As a mom, this case has really affected me. I’ve been following it so closely, talking about it constantly, and feeling heartbroken over every part of it. I became so consumed by the trial that I completely lost perspective and didn’t stop to think about how grossly inappropriate it was to discuss something this tragic in that context,” the mom of two continued.

“I made a terrible judgment call and I feel so f—ing awful about that. I know deleting it doesn’t erase it,” she added. “Believe me, I’m horrified by the choice I made, and please know this lapse in judgment does not represent who I am as a person. I am so deeply sorry.”

The apology comes after Hirsch posted an ad for Polymarket — an online betting platform where users can wager on the outcomes of real-world events — shortly after news broke that the case had ended in a mistrial on Friday, Sept. 4.

“On Polymarket it was predicted the verdict would be Not Guilty. Are you surprised? #Polymarketpartner,” Hirsch wrote in the since-deleted post.

A number of her followers circulated screenshots of the original post.

“@dearmediastudio @notskinnybutnotfat partnering with Polymarket to bet on the outcome of the Lindsay Clancy trial is the most insane shit I’ve ever seen in the world of sponsored content. Y’all should be ashamed of yourselves,” one commenter wrote.

“This is so insensitive and distasteful,” another person wrote on Reddit.

Hirsch previously posted about her investment in the Clancy trial — which has received widespread national attention — in a video shared on Instagram on Aug. 21.

“Even though I don’t necessarily agree with the TikTok rabbit hole conspiracies surrounding the Lindsay Clancy trial, I do feel one thing VERY strongly: what women go through during pregnancy and postpartum is INSANE mentally, physically, psychologically. Moms need to be heard, understood, supported, and taken care of. GREATLY,” she wrote in the video’s caption.

“Whatever you believe about this case, I hope it forces a much bigger conversation about how we care for mothers before and after they give birth. Because we have to do better,” she added.

Clancy’s trial ended in a mistrial after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous verdict following nearly six weeks of testimony and seven days of deliberations.

Clancy, 36, who was charged in connection with the 2023 deaths of her three children, did not dispute that she killed them, but pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, with her attorneys arguing that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis.

The jury was split 11-1 and, because no unanimous verdict could be reached, the judge declared a mistrial.

Prosecutors can retry the case, and a hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29 to determine next steps.
