Last year’s EP ‘Shadows in the Square’ from Sand Brothers was described by Backseat Mafia as being an unique and thrilling series of anthemic delights, and it is good news to see the group back treading the boards with their new single ‘Strange Lights’. It’s the first single from the forthcoming album ‘VIA YOU’.
The track glitters like the sunshine on water: a synth riff draws you in before the yearning vocals add a delicate and memorable melody, while guitars jangle and back vocals add a soaring backdrop.
It’s classic Sand Brothers: antipodean gold layered over a genetic code redolent of Mancunian bands like The Stone Roses and The Charlatans. There is a dreamy pop filigree and a psychedelic wander through the clouds as the song ends. It’s brilliant stuff as ever from this enigmatic band.
‘Strange Lights’ is out now and you can download and stream through here.
Sand Brothers are helmed by multi-instrumentalists Greg Walker (Machine Translations), Rick Sands (The Night Party) and Pete Cook (Yamamoto). Classic Marrickville Sound band: bands with a history that continue to create wonderful music.
