Liev Schreiber is opening the doors to his longtime New York City home — and reflecting on its many iterations since he first purchased it nearly 30 years ago. 

In a tour with Architectural Digest, the Caught Stealing actor, 58, unveiled his reimagined NoHo loft, which started out as a bachelor pad that he purchased using the money from his role in Nora Ephron’s Mixed Nuts (1994). The space was first a one-bedroom apartment which he purchased back in 1998.

While he later moved out of the building and into a duplex with his former partner Naomi Watts, he returned to his beloved NoHo space following their 2016 split. The amicable exes share son Sasha, 18, and daughter Kai, 17. 

After he and Watts separated, Schreiber transformed his previously renovated bachelor pad into a triplex when he annexed the two-floor apartment below. At the time, he worked with designers Ariel Ashe and Reinaldo Leandro of design firm Ashe Leandro, with help from consulting architect Eric Sheffield.

Schreiber called on the same design duo to tackle his home’s most recent makeover and help him turn it into a four-bedroom home after purchasing the neighboring two-bedroom apartment. The expansion came after he and his wife Taylor tied the knot in July 2023 and welcomed daughter Hazel Bee a month later, leading the actor to want a bigger space for his blended family. 

While the couple’s reimagined abode now has dedicated rooms for all of the children, the most impressive amenity might be the expanded rooftop garden with a chicken coop where the couple gather their own eggs. The outdoor space is now twice the size of what it originally was following the recent renovation.

The request came from Taylor, who grew up on a corn and soy farm in South Dakota, according to AD. Along with softening the space’s man-cave feel, she wanted to ensure there was a serene outdoor space for their family to enjoy.  

“We had sheep and pigs and chickens,” the former Miss South Dakota recalled to the outlet of her childhood home. “So making a green space on the roof was really important to me.”

Inside the home, the blackened-steel spiral staircase not only makes a statement, but it also connects directly up to the roof where the family cares for their chickens. The outdoor space boasts a cold-plunge pool, sweeping Manhattan views and lush greenery that includes raspberry bushes and wisteria. 

Despite now having a chicken coop in his home, Schreiber admits he was once scared of the fowl, telling AD his fear stemmed from his upbringing in a commune in Canada thanks to his hippie parents. “I’ve always been terrified of chickens,” he said, adding “they look like dinosaurs.”

As for the rest of the home’s layout, the lowest level now boasts three bedrooms for each of the kids, as well as a family den and Schreiber’s home office.  

The floor above includes the couple’s primary bedroom, the living room and the kitchen where Schreiber says, “I’m told I make a very good cappuccino.”
