Cruise praised the Princess of Wales as “charismatic and so elegant” after they connected at a London movie premiere

Tom Cruise had more great things to say about Kate Middleton and Prince William after their red carpet reunion.

The 64-year-old star was asked about his recent meeting with royalty at the U.S. premiere of his new film, Digger, in Los Angeles on Monday, Sept. 28. Cruise reunited with the Prince and Princess of Wales, both 44, last week at the world premiere of the film in London, walking the red carpet alongside the couple and sitting next to them in the screening of the Alejandro G. Iñárritu-directed film.

“It was just so fun sitting there watching them watch it and for them to be part of it,” Cruise told Extra at the Los Angeles premiere, held at the Directors Village theater in Westwood.

“I have so much respect for them, you know, they’re amazing people and how dedicated they are to their country and also… what they give to the world,” he raved. “They’re just beautiful people and fun, very funny.”

Princess Kate, in particular, left an impression on the actor.

“She’s got a great sense, incredible sense of humor,” Cruise praised. “I mean, obviously very intelligent and fun… They’re so charismatic and so elegant; that dress that she was wearing? Stunning, absolutely stunning.”

“William did well,” he added with a wink, before turning to the camera. “Way to go. Smart choice.”

Cruise was also wowed by the couple’s response to the film, the details of which have been kept tightly under wraps. The film stars Cruise as “the most powerful man in the world” in “a comedy of catastrophic proportions,” according to Variety.

“You know, they were shocked and surprised and wrote me later, ‘Can’t stop thinking about the movie,’ ” Cruise shared. “It was, it was really beautiful.”

The rest of the cast, who also brushed elbows with William and Kate at the London premiere, includes Sandra Hüller, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Riz Ahmed and Emma D’Arcy.

Cruise’s royal connections date back decades. He and his ex-wife Nicole Kidman mingled with the late Princess Diana at the 1992 premiere of their romantic drama Far and Away, and they later attended Diana’s funeral in 1997.

Cruise recently spoke about getting to know Diana during an interview with Laurent Delahousse on French television. He said the late Princess of Wales was a “brilliant and intelligent woman” and that knowing her had been “a joy.”

“She was like William and Kate: approachable, down-to-earth,” he added.

However, the Hollywood star may share the strongest bond with William, whom he also invited to a private screening of Top Gun: Maverick ahead of the film’s official premiere in 2022, after hearing the prince was a fan of the 1986 original.

“We have a lot in common,” Cruise said of the royal at the premiere, according to My London. “We both love England, and we’re both aviators; we both love flying.”
