One man died and eight people were hurt in a crash in Pennsylvania that involved more than a dozen vehicles and a pickup truck going airborne.

Police in Haverford Township said that the crash, involving 14 vehicles, occurred on Saturday, Oct. 3, around 12:15 p.m., according to CBS Philadelphia, NBC Philadelphia and FOX 29.

Investigators said that the incident started with the pickup truck driving erratically down the township’s West Chester Pike. The driver — who police believe may have experienced a medical emergency — then sideswiped several cars before slamming into a U-Haul truck.

Security camera footage shared by the Havertown Cafe, located near the crash site, shows the pickup truck becoming airborne as it crossed the nearby parking lot before crashing into other vehicles and the U-Haul truck.

“We heard a loud commotion outside, we came out, and it was a car, truck going airborne,” Crissy McCallum, who was in a cafe in the area at the time of the crash, told CBS. McCallum said she rushed to help someone who was hurt in the incident.

The driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene, and eight people were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Police Chief John F. Viola told CBS. The driver was only identified as a man in his 60s.

Fourteen total vehicles were involved in the crash, and the site spanned about 2 miles, the chief added.

Officials said that many police officers were already in the area for Haverford Township Day, an annual community festival, when the crash occurred.

West Chester Pike was shut down near the crash site for several hours, the outlets reported, but all lanes have since reopened.

Police have not yet shared the conditions of the people injured in the crash.
