NEED TO KNOW

  • Walt Disney World’s Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring the Muppets is getting its first update since it opened to the public in May of this year
  • The roller coaster’s Obligatory Holiday Overlay opens Nov. 4 and features a festive spin with the Muppet’s house band, the Electric Mayhem, putting their own take on a variety of festive tunes
  • Both Jennifer Hudson and Cyndi Lauper collaborated with the band to record songs that will play during the ride

Forget “Silent Night,” the Muppets will have their own raucous take on the holidays this year — and they’re taking Cyndi Lauper and Jennifer Hudson along for the ride.

On Tuesday, Oct. 6, Walt Disney World unveiled a new batch of holiday rethemings coming to three of the resort’s most popular attractions next month, including Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets: Obligatory Holiday Overlay.

For this limited-time experience, the Muppet’s house band, the Electric Mayhem, will put their own spin on the season with a variety of festive tunes and a few new surprises.

From Nov. 4 through Jan. 6, 2027, guests will stumble across Dr. Teeth, Animal and the rest of the band rehearsing for their holiday spectacular. As an audio-animatronic Scooter does his best to convey the band to make the concert in time, guests will be invited to join along for the ride.

To celebrate the season, the Electric Mayhem are preparing four new holiday-inspired tracks that guests will hear mid-ride. Plus, they’ve asked some big name collaborators to join in the lineup.

The band’s new set list will include “Little Saint Nick,” “Holiday Road” featuring Kermit the Frog and Fozzie Bear, “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” with Jennifer Hudson and “Silver Bells” featuring Cyndi Lauper.

To help share the news, Lauper got together with the diva herself Miss Piggy for a social media video promoting the upcoming overlay. In the clip, Miss Piggy lists off the top items on her holiday wish list including “new stilettos,” a “new boa” and a “six-part docuseries on Disney+.”

The “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” artist then piped in with a dream of her own: “I’ve always wanted to sing with the Electric Mayhem, maybe on a roller coaster.”

“You gotta be kidding me, seriously? Well they’re not my cup of tea,” Miss Piggy says before offering an introduction to the band.

The holiday overlay coming to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster marks its first update since the attraction opened to the public at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on May 26. The Electric Mayhem’s typical setlist includes “Song 2,” “Born to Be Wild” featuring Camilla the Chicken, “Love Rollercoaster” with Jennifer Hudson and Questlove, “Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)” accompanied by Def Leppard and “Walking on Sunshine” with Kelly Clarkson.

The updated look came more than two months after Disney closed the original version of the attraction, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, on March 1.

Elsewhere at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the Alien Swirling Saucers attraction at Toy Story Land will also play four holiday tracks entitled “Toyland,” “Deck the Halls,” “Swirling, Swirling, Saucers” and “Joy to the Swirl.”
