NEED TO KNOW

  • Talina Galloway, who lived in Wagoner, Okla., vanished in the spring of 2020
  • Her body was found in a freezer in Mena, Ark., nearly one year after her disappearance
  • Talina’s roommate, Kore Bommeli, was arrested for her murder and took a plea deal in September

Talina Galloway disappeared from her Wagoner, Okla., home in the spring of 2020 — but her body wasn’t discovered until nearly one year later in Arkansas.

Before Galloway’s disappearance, she allegedly shared in a Facebook post that she believed she had COVID-19 and didn’t want to go to the hospital, according to NBC News. Galloway’s roommate, Kore Bommeli, told police that Galloway went to her favorite lake.

However, Galloway left behind many of her belongings — including her car, purse and wallet, per a Dateline episode that aired on Oct. 9. Per the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office, investigators determined that Galloway was never screened at any hospital for COVID-19.

After Galloway’s body was found in a freezer in Mena, Ark., in January 2021, Bommeli was arrested for first-degree murder and desecration of a human corpse. In September, Bommeli accepted a no contest plea deal just before her trial was scheduled to begin, per NBC News.

Galloway was a 53-year-old woman who also went by the name Talina Zar on her social media accounts. She legally changed her name to Talina Galloway before she vanished, according to the What Happened to Her podcast.

She lived in Indiana before moving to Wagoner, Okla., with her husband until his sudden death, according to Galloway’s niece, Chantel Jones, who spoke with Dateline in May 2020.

On April 7, 2020, a post on Galloway’s Facebook page announced that she thought she had COVID-19 and planned to take time away at her favorite lake, according to the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office.

Galloway also reportedly contacted her friend Marty Angus who lived in the area. “She wasn’t feeling well, and she would get back to me when she felt better,” Angus told KRJH in May 2020. “I’ve been calling, texting. There’s just no answer. Her phone’s been off since the 7th.”

Galloway’s roommate, Bommeli, reported her missing to the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office on April 17, per NBC News. Bommeli told police that Galloway went to her favorite lake after being screened for COVID-19 at the Wagoner Community Hospital and being told to quarantine, according to the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators believed at the time Galloway might have used a rideshare app to go somewhere in Arkansas, but were not able to verify if a driver had picked her up.

On June 8, 2020, a witness reported seeing a pickup truck with a trailer, which had a foul odor coming from it, driving into a wooded area of Mena, Ark. At the time, a deputy was dispatched to investigate and the witness assumed it was handled, according to the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office.

However, the same witness was in the area on Jan. 14, 2021, and found a freezer taped shut that was emitting a foul odor. In both instances, the witness supplied vehicle tag information that was registered to Galloway, according to the sheriff’s office.

Police ultimately found dismembered remains in the freezer. They were identified as those of Galloway, and her death was ruled a homicide.

Throughout the investigation, Bommeli became a person of interest to police, who later determined that Galloway had not been screened for COVID-19 as Bommeli claimed.

“Investigators soon realized that Kore Bommeli exhibited suspicious behavior, gave inconsistent statements, and later was proven to be deceptive in her reporting of the circumstances surrounding the disappearance,” the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office said in an August 2021 statement.

After investigators found Galloway’s body, investigators discovered evidence that connected Bommeli to a 2014 crime in Wisconsin in which she attempted to poison her neighbors with homemade Ricin, per the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office.

Bommeli — who was in Dale County, Wisc., and out on bond for the illegal possession of a firearm in Oklahoma — was then arrested on charges of first-degree murder and desecration of a human corpse in connection with Galloway’s murder.

Bommeli was first tried for her 2014 case and found guilty on two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide on June 27, 2025, KJRH reported. She was sentenced to 25 years in prison and 15 years of extended supervision, per the Wisconsin State Journal.

In September 2026, Bommeli pleaded no contest to several charges

Before Bommeli’s murder trial was scheduled to start in September, she accepted a plea deal. She pleaded no contest to a lesser charge of manslaughter and desecration of a human corpse in connection with Galloway’s death, as well as possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction, per NBC News.

Bommeli’s legal co-counsel, Bryan Cannonie, told KJRH that Kore maintains her innocence. “Kore is steadfast in her claim that she did not do this,” he said. “I think we even told the DA, we did not believe that Miss Bommeli would enter any plea to the case. We thought we were going to trial.”

Bommeli was sentenced to 35 years in prison and is receiving credit for time served since 2021, per KJRH. The sentence will run concurrently with the sentence she is serving in her Wisconsin case.

She is currently serving her time at Taycheedah Correctional Institution in Fond du Lac, Wisc. Bommeli’s mandatory release date is Jan. 27, 2048, when she would be in her late 80s, per the State of Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
