Towns wed Jordan Woods in August 2026, just months after winning his first NBA Championship

Karl-Anthony Towns got sage advice from none other than New York Knicks teammate and captain Jalen Brunson before saying “I do.”

While reflecting on his Aug. 15 wedding to Jordyn Woods, Towns tells PEOPLE that Brunson, 30, was very “adamant” about one thing before the big day.

“Jalen told me, ‘Don’t lock [your] legs at the altar,’” Towns recalls. “He said, ‘You’ll fall over.’ “

“I have no idea why he told me that, but he was very adamant about that piece of advice, so he must have had a different experience than I had,” Towns jokes.

Less than two months after the wedding, Towns says he is still surprised by “how fast” the day went by.

“I’ve been to weddings, so even when I threw my mom’s second wedding to my dad, I just remember it being a long day. When it’s your wedding, it feels like a very short day, and you don’t get to really experience it; you don’t really get to live it. It goes by so quick,” the NBA player, also 30, shares.

“I think that’s what surprised me the most. I thought it would be this extravaganza, which it was, but I think it felt like all of a sudden it was everyone leaving and it was time to go. I was just like, ‘Wait, I feel like we just got started,’” Towns — who is partnering with Sanofi for NUVAXOVID, the protein-based, non-mRNA COVID-19 vaccine — adds.

Towns and Woods, 29, tied the knot during a star-studded wedding in Malibu, Calif. — and the guest list was filled with A-listers from both the entertainment and sports worlds. Ben Stiller, a die-hard Knicks fan, attended the ceremony alongside his wife, Christine Taylor. Other celebrity guests included Tracy Morgan, Jada Pinkett Smith, Michael B. Jordan, Kylie Jenner, Timothée Chalamet, Justin and Hailey Bieber and Gayle King, as well as NBA stars Brunson, Mohamed Diawara, OG Anunoby, Andre Drummond, Josh Hart and Chris Paul.

While the couple is still settling into married life, the athlete doesn’t feel like much has changed in their day-to-day. The only difference, he says, is that they “get to wear a ring on our ring finger.”

“Honestly, we both talked about it. We don’t feel like it’s changed much because we were just already in a place [where] it just kind of made the wedding feel like a formality,” Towns tells PEOPLE.

Still, Towns clarifies that it was a “fun” formality, so much so that he told Woods that they “gotta do it next year.”

“We gotta have another wedding. Just redo it. We don’t even have to have the ceremony. Let’s just have the reception,” Towns says.
