One thing about me: I take shoe shopping seriously. I’m not ashamed to say I have a closet dedicated to shoes in my tiny apartment (maybe not the best use of my space, but I’m not apologizing). Before I invest in any new footwear this season, I’m challenging myself to retire a few outdated styles cluttering my space.

I’m counting on some of my favorite celebrities, including Anne Hathaway, Taylor Swift, and Dakota Johnson, to guide me in what’s trending, then moving their outdated counterparts to the back of my closet. Below, shop knee-high boots, animal-print sneakers, and more of-the-moment picks I’m eyeing this season starting at $21.

I hate to say it, but it seems combat boots have officially run their course. Until they inevitably come back, I’m opting for Swift-inspired knee-high boots. The leg-lengthening style is a sophisticated alternative to clunkier pairs this season. I found stylish lookalikes to Swift’s luxe brown suede pair, including these that one shopper said they comfortably walked 6,000 steps in at work.

I can’t resist a pair of statement-making sneakers, but this fall I’m swapping my once-trendy color-block pairs for playful animal prints, inspired by Hathaway. The actress wore a pair of zebra-print Adidas sneakers that are nearly sold out, but I found a similar pair from Lucky Step for $40, along with a few other wildlife-inspired Adidas styles I’m eyeing.

I think we can all agree that ballet flats will never truly go out of style, but a celebrity-approved alternative is emerging this season: glove flats. This slip-on shoe is designed to hug the natural shape of your foot, unlike an ultra-rounded-toe ballet flat. Katie Holmes has given the trend her seal of approval, and I’m shopping splurge-worthy lookalikes from Madewell, Steve Madden, and Franco Sarto.

Last year, a pop of red became the fashion crowd’s go-to way to transform a basic outfit. That trend hasn’t gone away, but instead of a bright cherry hue, I’m noticing more celebrities, like Johnson, wearing an understated burgundy. The expensive-looking shade will add a high-fashion flair to something as simple as a pair of jeans and a tee, and I found burgundy ballet flats and Mary Janes starting at $21.

Goodbye platform loafers — celebrities are ditching the chunky shoe trend in favor of low-profile horsebit loafers. Kirsten Dunst paired hers with a sleek, all-black outfit that I’m, without a doubt, recreating this fall, and I found similar styles to get her shoe look from Sam Edelman, Dream Pairs, and Qiy.
