As Dexter celebrates 20 years since its debut, James Remar is reflecting on some of his favorite on-screen moments with Michael C. Hall on the hit Showtime drama series.

While speaking with PEOPLE exclusively at the season 2 premiere of Dexter: Resurrection in New York City on Oct. 8, Remar, who plays Harry Morgan, the adoptive father of Hall’s Dexter Morgan, recalled one scene from the original series that particularly stood out to him.

“There’s a scene in season 3 or 4 between me and Dexter sitting on the couch in his Miami apartment, and we’re both dressed in his old-fashioned kill outfit,” the 72-year-old actor says. “And we’re talking about fathers and sons and people being close and how you can be as close to anybody in the world. And then there’s an infinite distance between them.”

Remar calls it “probably my favorite scene between the two of us of the original.” He describes the scene as “very, very out there,” noting that the characters were “being very quietly emotional with each other.”

Though Remar’s character is dead, he continues to appear in Dexter’s mind throughout the series in flashbacks and as a ghost, offering guidance as Dexter navigates life as a secret serial killer following a very specific code.

Another memorable moment for Remar comes from the season 1 finale of Dexter: Resurrection when Harry tells Dexter to “Get that f—er.” The line marks a rare moment of approval from the normally strict father, who gives Dexter his blessing to kill antagonist Leon Prater (Peter Dinklage), who was holding his son, Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott), at gunpoint.

“I love it because Harry and Dexter are on the same page, 100 percent,” he says.

Remar reprised his role as Harry in Dexter: Resurrection in July 2025. The sequel series picks up after the events of Dexter: New Blood, which premiered a decade after the original series finale.

That same month, Remar told PEOPLE that returning to the role was “totally new and completely different at the same time.”

“Working with Michael [C. Hall] has always been a privilege and a very, very intense experience because he’s so focused and so precise that you have to bring your best, you have to bring your A game. You can’t fool around and flub your lines and do stupid stuff,” he said.

In the second season of Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter finds himself caught between two killers, “one with decades of notoriety and a lifetime of kills behind him, and the other a fresh young face terrorizing New York in ways no one has ever seen,” according to a synopsis.

“Meanwhile, Dexter battles a new and unexpected enemy: a mid-life crisis. Harrison (Alcott) continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter yet,” the synopsis adds.

Returning alongside Hall and Remar are Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, Uma Thurman as Charley Brown, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine as Blessing Kamara, Kadia Saraf as Claudette Wallace, Dominic Fumusa as Detective Melvin Oliva, and Desmond Harrington as Joey Quinn. Krysten Ritter and Eric Stonestreet will reprise their guest-starring roles as Lady Vengeance and Rapunzel, respectively.

New stars joining the cast are Dan Stevens, Bokeem Woodbine, Nona Parker Johnson and Brian Cox. Gabriel Luna will also guest-star.

Dexter: Resurrection season 2 premieres on Friday, Oct. 30, only on Paramount+ with the Premium Plan.
