Camilo Durán moved into double figures for the season as Celtic reasserted themselves at the top of the Premiership by coming from behind to defeat beleaguered Hibernian 2-1 at windy Easter Road.

After another Europa League setback at home to Celta Vigo on Thursday, the champions bounced back with a victory that restored their four-point cushion over Rangers at the top. The home side, who are bottom, took an early lead through Owen Elding but it was swiftly cancelled out by a Jason Kerr own goal before Duran’s 10th of the season edged the visitors ahead just before the break.

It proved enough to secure a ninth win in 10 league games and ensure the recently appointed home boss, Marink Reedijk, suffered a third straight defeat since succeeding David Gray.

There were a couple of blemishes for Celtic, however, as substitute Alistair Johnston’s return from injury lasted barely 20 minutes before he had to go off, while £11million forward Kasper Hogh – restored to the starting line-up after notching in just one of his 13 previous matches for the Hoops – again drew a blank before being replaced in the 64th minute.

Derek McInnes asked his Rangers side to be “brilliant” against St Johnstone and was rewarded with a 4-0 win at Ibrox on Saturday. After dropping two points at Dundee, the Light Blues dominated the first half but only led at the interval through a goal in the 29th minute from the Venezuela forward Kevin Kelsy.

Saints started the second half brightly but goals from the Gers striker Ryan Naderi in the 61st minute and Kelsy again five minutes later had the home side cruising. The Saints substitute Kai Fotheringham was shown a straight red card by Chris Graham in the 74th minute for his high challenge on the midfielder Nico Raskin, before the substitute Tochi Chukwuani added a fourth for the hosts with three minutes remaining.

McInnes said: “It’s quite ironic in the sense that we were so good and so brilliant at times in the first half and create so many opportunities, that we were only a goal to the good at half-time. And obviously, we don’t want to let the frustration of those missed opportunities and dominance filter into the second half.

“I think half-time came at a bad time for us because, despite the conditions, some of the play was really good. I asked the players to be brilliant today, not just win the game, can we really commit to being the best we can be, as good as we can be? And I thought we were in the first half. Everything was brilliant except the result at half-time because we should have been more in in front.”

Dundee United won a rollercoaster game 3-2 against Aberdeen at Tannadice. Zidane Iqbal scored for the hosts before the visitors equalised through Nesta Guinness-Walker – both players scoring their first goals for their clubs.

United took the lead once more thanks to a Dylan Tait strike, with Connor Ronan drawing Aberdeen level after the break. Zac Sapsford secured all three points for his side, with the win moving United up to fourth – one point behind Hearts, who are at Motherwell on Sunday – while Aberdeen dropped to ninth.

Two own goals helped Falkirk climb to seventh with a 3-0 victory over Kilmarnock. Centre-backs Cathal McCarthy and George Stanger scored past their own goalkeeper either side of a Jacob Murrell header. St Mirren ended their losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Dundee with goals from Calvin Ramsay and Eseosa Sule before Bradley Fink pulled one back for the visitors.
