Jack Alcott says working with Michael C. Hall has taught him to approach acting differently.

While speaking with PEOPLE at the Dexter: Resurrection season 2 premiere in New York City on Oct. 8, Alcott, 29, recalled turning to Hall for guidance during time when he felt torn between two approaches to a scene.

“He immediately was like, ‘If you got two choices and you feel stuck, [there’s] two different directions you could go. The answer is both. Play both. You don’t have to simplify everything that much.’ And so that is just, I feel like as an actor, that’s opened a ton of doors for me in general,” Alcott says.

Alcott joined the franchise in 2021 with Dexter: New Blood, playing Harrison Morgan, the son of secret serial killer Dexter Morgan, portrayed by Hall. He reprised the role in Dexter: Resurrection, which follows Dexter after he awakens from a coma and travels to New York City to find his son.

Now in season 2, airing Oct. 30 on Paramount+, “Harrison continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter yet,” according to a synopsis. “Meanwhile, Dexter battles a new and unexpected enemy: a mid-life crisis,” the synopsis adds.

Alcott told PEOPLE in July 2025 that there’s rarely much prep between him and Hall before filming together.

“There have definitely been times where one of us or both of us will get down and do some pushups to get amped, and there have been one or two moments of just taking a second and standing with one another,” Alcott said.

However those moments are uncommon. “We don’t really ever rehearse or run lines,” he shared. “We just … lock in and go.” Alcott explained that this lack of prep allows himself and Hall to “jump right in so that it’s all fresh.”
