Australia’s favourite pub-punk troublemakers The Chats are back with Half Cut, out on 5 March 2027, their first album in five years, and it seems the Sunshine Coast trio have done a bit of growing up. Well, sort of.
Since their last record, The Chats have barely stopped touring, sharing stages with Queens of the Stone Age, Foo Fighters and The Hives, while earning plenty of attention for their appearance at Coachella earlier this year.
Recorded in Los Angeles with Frenzal Rhomb’s Jay Whalley, Half Cut finds Eamon Sandwith and company exploring slightly more personal territory, tackling everything from hangovers and confrontation to reconciliation and rehabilitation.
But don’t expect the band behind viral hit Smoko to suddenly start taking themselves too seriously. With tracks titled Half Arsed, Hanging Shit and Brown Bottle Flu, their distinctly Australian sense of humour remains firmly intact.
Five years, countless international shows and a few more life lessons later, The Chats are still doing things their own way. They might be getting older, but they’re clearly not ready to clean up their act.
The Chats will get closely reacquainted with Aussie audiences this November ahead of the release of their third album on March 5, 2027.
