After Savannah Chrisley announced she’s engaged and expecting her first baby with fiancé Jason Galanis, her dad Todd Chrisley is sharing his initial thoughts about his daughter’s romance.

On a Thursday, Oct. 29 episode of Bunnie Xo’s Dumb Blonde podcast, the Chrisley Knows Best star, 57, and his wife Julie Chrisley, 53, opened up about Savannah’s engagement and baby on the way, and revealed they weren’t initially onboard with the relationship.

“He’s 20 years older, and it was not something I embraced because…I mean, to the point that I had a choice to make,” Todd said of his daughter’s relationship. “It was either embrace my daughter’s decision or lose my daughter.”

“And nothing is ever coming between me and my daughter,” he continued. “I love Savannah with my heart and soul, but did I advocate for this? No, but I will tell you that he has treated her with the utmost of respect.”

Todd went on to share that Jason has never had children and has been divorced for many years, adding that he went through a “very difficult time” in his life.

“But [he] went through a very difficult time in his life, and to watch how she’s treated on a daily basis, and he came to me as my generation would, because he is of my generation, I say that you know she’ll have 20 years with him, and I’ll retire with him in the assisted living,” he said.

“But then he came to me, he asked for her hand in marriage, and I said to him, ‘You do understand that she may be the only love that you claim you’ve ever had, but you won’t be her only love,’” recalled Todd. “And he said, ‘Well, it’s my job while I am to make sure she never forgets it.’”

The former reality TV star said Savannah told him she’d rather have 20 years of everything than “50 years of nothing.” He went on to address her engagement to her ex-fiancé Nic Kerdiles, who died in September 2023 from a motorcycle crash, calling him his “chosen one.”

“Although I loved Nic and Nic was my chosen one and was the greatest kid, one of the greatest kids in the world,” said Todd, “I would rather have my daughter’s happiness than someone else’s.”

Earlier this week, Savannah announced on her podcast Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley that she is engaged to her “mystery” fiancé, whom she only called Jason. After the news broke, it was revealed that Savannah’s fiancé is Jason Galanis, who was sentenced to 189 months in prison in September 2020 for multiple securities fraud schemes. President Trump commuted his sentence in March 2025.

Galanis was also an associate of Hunter Biden and worked with him and business associate Devon Archer. Galanis also testified in the impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden in March 2024 while he was still in prison.
