NEED TO KNOW

  • Céline Dion’s 16 Paris shows grossed $125.5 million and sold 539,000 tickets
  • The residency marks her first large-scale concert run in more than six years
  • Dion will return to Paris in May for 10 additional performances

Céline Dion is wrapping the first leg of her long-awaited Paris residency with some impressive numbers.

The pop superstar, 58, played the last of 16 shows at Plenitude Arena in Paris on Oct. 17, and raked in $125.5 million in the process, according to Billboard. The outlet reported that Dion sold 539,000 tickets across the run of shows, which began on Sept. 12.

The triumphant residency marked Dion’s return to playing large-scale shows for the first time in more than six years. Her performing career was sidelined first by the COVID pandemic in 2020, and later by her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis in 2022.

She is set to return to Paris for a second leg this spring, with 10 shows scheduled between May 8–29.

“Thank you Paris for welcoming me back. I’ll be holding onto these moments for a long time,” Dion wrote on Instagram after playing the final show.

The “My Heart Will Go On” singer is no stranger to residences, as she previously dedicated a number of years to playing two stints at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas from 2003 to 2019. According to Billboard, her two separate runs at the venue are the two highest-grossing residences in Boxscore history.

The outlet reported that her nightly average in Paris was $7.8 million, which is more than 10 times the nightly intake from either show in Las Vegas. Her average crowd size of 33,700 is also reportedly double that of the next best per-show attendance for any residency in the Boxscore archives.

Prior to the launch of the Paris residency, Dion’s last full concert took place in New Jersey in May 2020. The rest of her tour was canceled due to the pandemic, and she later canceled the rescheduled shows due to her stiff-person syndrome diagnosis.

She was diagnosed with the rare and progressive autoimmune and neurological disorder in 2022, but told Harper’s BAZAAR in August that she’s been doing well thanks to new medication, physical and vocal therapy and immunotherapy.

While on stage during the first show on Sept. 12, she stopped seconds into her first song as she became visibly choked up. Once she’d finished two songs, she spoke to the crowd in French and then English.

“There are many of you here tonight from all over the world. Thank you so very much for coming,” she said. “If it’s your first time in Paris, I hope you fall in love with it, just like I did. Finally, it’s amazing we are all together.”

She continued, “I made a promise. I made a promise to come back, to be back on stage. So here I am, singing for you and singing for me, singing life!”
